HRYHORCZUK: It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elaine Hryhorczuk on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Elaine passed peacefully in the Assiniboine Centre at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, surrounded by her family. Elaine leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years, Boris; two sons Brant and Todd; brother Harvey; sister-in-law Christine; and many other close friends and relatives. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Elaine will be remembered for her open heart, her sparkling sense of humor, and her love of entertaining, warmly welcoming all she knew into her home. She was the kind of person who was able to develop a special connection with everyone she met, from long-time friends to complete strangers. People could immediately recognize the good-hearted nature in her unique and warm personality. From her early years as a schoolteacher in Northern Manitoba and Winnipeg, she was drawn to young people with whom she shared a special affection. She later shared this connection with her many nieces and nephews and children of her close friends, pictures of which adorned her refrigerator door as a symbol of her love for them. Elaine enjoyed participating in a variety of sports. She played in the Charleswood Woman's Softball League and golfed with the John Blumberg Ladies' Golf League. She was involved with the Charleswood Curling Club for over two decades, playing a role on the club's executive committee and later serving as its president. She continued to golf in her later years, mainly near her home in the Duck Mountains, and scored two holes-in-one, including one at the infamous seventeenth hole at the Clear Lake Golf Club. She could also be seen and heard cheering on her sons from the stands at countless hockey, baseball and football games, sometimes played in the most inclement weather. She approached all these sporting endeavors from a social standpoint, establishing long-term friendships with many of her teammates, competitors, golf partners, and fellow hockey moms. One of her greatest loves was for food, cooking and entertaining, as she enjoyed preparing grand meals (The endless hors d'oeuvres! That spinach dip! The mountains of perogies and cabbage rolls!) for friends and family. She eagerly welcomed guests into her home, looking forward to the opportunity to make them feel comfortable and contented (and full). Elaine lived a wonderful, happy life. She was generous and funny, cared deeply about others, and made friends with everyone she met. She was the brightest of stars in our family's sky and she will always be loved. At Elaine's request a formal funeral service will not be held; she wished to be remembered by the happy moments and laughter that she shared with her friends and family. Her family would like to sincerely thank the many doctors and nurses at the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre and the Assiniboine Centre for the loving and affectionate care they bestowed on Elaine. Donations in memory of Elaine may be made to Western Manitoba Cancer Centre or Murray House, c/o BRHC Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
