SHANNON ANN THOMPSON
July 12, 1955 - August 27, 2021

It is with great sadness that the Thompson family announces the peaceful passing of Shannon Ann Thompson (nee Bjarnason) on Friday, August 27, 2021.
Shannon will forever be remembered by her husband of 43 years, Alan; son Jordan (Jenna); and daughter Caitlin. She is also survived by her brothers, Colin (Hazel) and Douglas; and her sister Susan; as well as aunts, uncles and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Shannon was predeceased by her father Unnstein and her mother Dorothy.
Born in Gimli, Manitoba on July 12, 1955, Shannon spent her formative years at her family home in Riverton, Manitoba, before putting down permanent roots in Charleswood with her husband Alan. It was within the Charleswood community that Shannon would find lasting friendships and raise her family. She loved to golf and curl, passions that would reward her with many treasured memories and her dearest lifelong friends. Shannon spent her entire working career with Air Canada, retiring after 32 years of service.
Shannon loved to travel, which led to many memorable experiences. From her early adulthood, scuba diving through the Caribbean with her husband, to her years with young kids, taking family vacations to Florida, or to weekend trips with her best friends or her daughter, Shannon made countless lasting memories with those she loved.
Shannon had a special spot in her heart for her three cats, Lucy, Desi, and Charlie, and upon retirement, she found joy in volunteering at D'Arcy's Arc. Throughout her life and especially during her retirement years, Shannon looked forward to spring so she could begin tending to her garden, often the envy of her beloved neighbours, and providing a beautiful backdrop for summer dinners enjoyed on the backyard patio. Shannon loved to cook and enjoyed sitting down with a good book and a glass of wine.
Shannon will be remembered for her love, loyalty, and her laughter, as well as her kindness and generosity, both to those she knew and those she had just met.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to West Park Manor, especially to the angels on 2 - South and 2 - East, for the loving and affectionate care they provided Shannon during her 18-month residency.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Shannon's memory to West Park Manor Personal Care Home or to D'Arcy's Arc Animal Rescue Centre.
Cremation has taken place, and in keeping with Shannon's wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service.

Condolences for Shannon's family may be left at www.alternacremation.ca.

  • Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family for a life lost far too soon. Working with Shannon was indeed a true pleasure. Our department had a true family feel to it and Shannon was a huge contributing factor to that feeling. Shannon was without a doubt one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She was always happiest when telling of her kids exploits and accomplishments and the fabulous and funny dinner parties and get togethers in her and Alan's home. We shared a birthday toast more than once being our birthdays are five days apart, and stood in line more than once at the local LCC waiting for the newest arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau to arrive. Nothing but good memories with our ShannieAnnie for sure. Let your good memories carry your family thru this terribly sad time and know Shannon will truly be missed by all that were lucky enough to have known her. - Posted by: Wendy and Curtis Collins (Friends and Co-worker at Air Canada with Wendy) on: Sep 19, 2021

  • We were so saddened to hear of Shannon’s passing. We both worked at Air Canada with Shannon for many years. Gerry especially was a very close co- worker - he treasured her friendship, her sense of humor and her fun loving ways. She was also extremely knowledgeable and was the Accts Payable SME. It was Shannon who got me into curling at Charleswood and was SO patient with me while I learned the game. I shall always remember those great times and the post game debriefs up in the lounge! Shannon was quite simply a wonderful person and taken far too young. Wishing Alan and family comfort in the days ahead. Cherish your memories! Our thoughts are with you. Deepest Condolences from Kathy and Gerry Gibbings. - Posted by: Kathryn Gibbings (Friend ) on: Sep 12, 2021

  • Our family is very saddened to hear about Shannon’s passing. Shannon’s caring, support and help through our daughter Lindsay’s school, soccer, ringette, volleyball and hockey years in Charleswood would not have been possible without Shannon’s constant help and encouragement. • I just saw this obituary today and it really made me very sad. Shannon was my lead at Air Canada for a while, she was so kind, caring and patient with all of us workers.....and a great sense of humour. I enjoyed our conversations about travelling and many other topics....she was always so positive. My deepest condolences to all her family, who she talked about often and loved very much. May the many good memories she left behind bring you all comfort during this very difficult time. Many blessings to her soul and to the family....Gone way too young! • My condolences to Shannon's loved ones. Many years ago I worked in the same finance department with Shannon. I remember her for her awesome personality and kindness to others. When my daughter was born I could not decide on her name. Because of that a helpful nurse suggested I think of someone I know maybe a friend or someone I worked with that was the type of person I would like my daughter to grow up to be. I named my daughter Shannon. - Posted by: Janice Carson (Co workers many years ago) on: Sep 04, 2021

  • Our sincere condolences to Alan and family, and to the Bjarnason families. Shannie used to babysit our daughters when they were young, and she was very dependable and our daughters loved her. Shannie was a very caring young lady and was a great athlete in our high school, participating on every team possible. She always played a leading role on every team. Shannie will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Everyone close to Shannie will have her in their hearts forever! - Posted by: Lloyd & Jeannette Roche (Friends) on: Sep 04, 2021
