JACK: Jean Jack of Fairview Personal Care Home, Brandon, MB passed away at the age of 100 years on September 13, 2021. She was born April 14, 1921 in Brandon to Jeannie (Henderson) and John G. Jaffray. As a young child she moved to Rocanville, SK, later returning to Brandon to find work. There she met her soulmate Henry (Harry) McGilvery Jack, a young Scottish airman training with the RAF. She often told the story that she knew immediately that he was the man she was going to marry. They were married March 16, 1943 in Rocanville at her parents' home. As a young woman she worked at Yeager's Furs in Brandon as a seamstress. Also, during the war years she also worked in a munitions factory and as a nanny and family helper on a farm while waiting for Harry to return from the war. Following the war, Mom and Dad resided in Brandon and soon moved to Minnedosa where they owned and operated Jack's Bakery. They were married for 54 years. In retirement, they enjoyed trips to Scotland and England to visit family. Mom resided in Minnedosa for 61 years before moving to Victoria Landing in Brandon in 2008 and then to Fairview Home in 2017. She was a life time member in the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Royal Purple. Mom was the ultimate homemaker and we would often find her in the kitchen making homemade meals and baking. She was an avid sewer, making clothes and coats for her children and grandchildren. She spent time making mittens and scarves and toques for her family. For years there was always a new pair of knitted slippers tucked into each Christmas parcel followed by new mittens for the grandchildren. She cherished the time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved it when the house was full of activity with lots of family around the dining room table. There are many wonderful memories of Clear Lake, especially at their cabin in the Old Campground. The grandchildren played many rounds of Old Maid, Spoons, and Go Fish along with endless amounts of cookies and treats. Mom had a way of making each grandchild feel that they were special. Jean is survived by her daughters Barbara (Frank Wynes), Carol (Roger Conrad) and son Tom Jack and son-in-law Russel Baschuk; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Harry, daughter Norma Jack-Baschuk, her parents Jeannie and John Jaffray, brothers Jack, Jim, Ted, and Bill Jaffray and sister Grace Boles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ruth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, c/o Beth McPhaden, Box 364, Hamiota MB, R0M 0T0. Thank you to the staff of Fairview Home for their continued care and compassion, especially throughout Covid and her last days of life. A private family graveside service will take place in Minnedosa.
