Rick impacted everyone he met, he had the ability to make a person feel welcome. They loved his humour, he brought laughter anywhere he went. Rick enjoyed playing "VLTs", he often referred them to his friend "VELTs", this was his second home, he said its where he and his mom would often play. When he wasn't playing slots, proline, bingo, you would definitely find him hosting poker "Texas Hold'em", he loved the game.
He would host a poker game to help community members fundraise for funeral costs, or even birthday games to celebrate with the poker buddies, other times it was just to host a game for fun, he loved and enjoyed his time there. He gave nicknames to everyone "donk" or "donkey', but he gave unique ones to special friends such as "Babyface Assassin", "Donk-leen', "Muzzard the Buzzard", "All in Mel", "Pat skin", "Bad Beat" "Nemesis" or "wood tick". His favourite hands were K/9 or A/J (Blackriver).
During his last few days of his life he told the nurses at the hospital, "I am a grandpa you know", he always talked about his grandbabies, he was so PROUD to be a grandpa.
Rick loved working outdoors, he worked for Abalon, Basement Systems and Esso. He enjoyed the heavy lifting, and often talked about all the work he did throughout Winnipeg. He was proud of the work he did.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the ICU staff at the St. Boniface Hospital and the team at the Heart Clinic for their care and compassion for Rick during his time there, also Chi-Meegwetch to all family and friends for your continued support, kindness and prayers during this difficult time.

To Those I Love And Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me, let me go.
You have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy we had so many years.
I gave you my love. You can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown.
But now it's time I travelled on alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will hear.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near,
And if you listen to your heart, you'll hear
All my love around you, soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say
"Welcome Home"

Rick was always a smart, energetic guy even in school! There was this one memory I had I ummmm showed up drunk to school one day and for some reason Rick knew! And didn't say anything to anyone and during lunch break I crashed out on the gym stage and all he did was laugh and bother me saying shouldn't be a lusho! Lol he never did rat me out.... even after I started calling him Mr Tang Top (with a snap and tongue click) R.I.P Rick you will be whole heartedly missed always and forever - Posted by: Sonya bunn (School yard friend ) on: Sep 19, 2021
