May 15, 1946 - September 22, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who passed away peacefully in Brandon, Manitoba on September 22, 2021. She now joins her husband of 50 years (Kelvin) and their Border Collie (Rockzee) in heaven.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Laurie (Debbie), Colleen (Lance), and Christy (Arturo); her cherished grandchildren, Carly (Justin), Josh (Reilly), Cameron (Michelle), and Daryn; her great-grandchildren, Abby and Olivia; her sister-in-law, Beth (Neil); her stepmother, Sophie; and her brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorraine had many lifelong friends that she considered family, including Pat, Clem and Maryann, Ron and Carolynn, and Marylee, Wade and Laura, and Rick and Monie. She enjoyed the time she spent with her friends in Gimli and they became very dear to her; they shared so many laughs and special memories.
Lorraine was born on May 15, 1946 in Edmonton, Alberta. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Vera Melnychuk. Lorraine worked at Bristol Aerospace for many years, until she eventually retired to spend more time with family and friends. She enjoyed golfing, cooking for her loved ones, and travelling to Mexico with her friend Jackie to avoid Manitoba's cold winters. She was an avid sports fan and loved curling, football, and hockey. In her spare time, she liked to cook for the residents at the Gimli New Horizons 55+ Centre.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate and attentive care during the brief but difficult period that led to Lorraine's passing. During her stay in Brandon, she always looked forward to seeing her lunch buddy Arturo, who gave her foot massages and wheelchair rides. A special thank you to Dr. Fourie, Dr. Minders, Dr. Dhalla, and Dr. Edward for their expert and considerate medical care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation - Palliative Care Unit, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
We will forever cherish the wonderful times, unforgettable moments, and amazing meals that we shared with her.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in care of Brockie Donovan Funeral & Cremation Services, Brandon, MB, (204) 727-0694

  • Dear Chrissy, Colleen, Laurie & families, Sorry I have not called, as the phone numbers I have aren't going through. I am thinking about you at this time. I wish I was closer to you, so I could deliver to you some Christmas baking. I know this will be a difficult Christmas for you, and I will be thinking about all of you during the holidays. Loraine was very special to me and close to my heart. I miss her dearly. All my love, Grandma - Posted by: Sophie & Brenda (family ) on: Nov 21, 2021

  • I came across Mrs. Crawford’s obituary by chance. Christy and I were childhood friends growing up in Crestview. I spent so much time at their house and have dear memories of Mrs. Crawford when we were kids. Christy, I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember the salami and mustard sandwiches your mom made for us and how nice she was :) Your old friend, Pat. A. from Crestview School. - Posted by: Pat A. • To my dear friend, Lorraine. As much family as friend, you are already so missed by all those who knew and loved you. Deepest condolences to the entire family, who she treasured beyond everything else. Lorraine was wise, kind, funny, adventurous, and always a true friend. We shared so many memories over the years – going to all kinds of games, curling, golfing, shopping, cooking, eating, and just hanging out. She taught me how to play the slots and how to make the best cabbage rolls this side of heaven! We always laughed together, even during sad times, which made them better. I will miss the laughter the most. Gone too soon but never forgotten. - Posted by: Laura Podaima (Friend) on: Oct 05, 2021
