MARY VERMETTE
September 19, 1940 - September 23, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Elsie Vermette on September 23, 2021, at the age of 81 in Winnipeg, MB. She enjoyed her recent birthday with her family by her side.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Debbie (Stan); sons, Shawn (Michelle), Gerald and Ronald; grandchildren, McKayla, Taylor, Lindsay, Kelsey and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Aidan, Lexie, Henry and Harriet; sister Jean (Bill); and many nieces, nephews and friends. Andrea is a close family acquaintance and her predeceased parents, Charlie and Vicki were very close to Mary from childhood.
Mary was a trusted, loyal member of the Canada Revenue Agency for over 30 years, retiring in 2007. She is still fondly remembered by her friends and peers.
Baba enjoyed a simple, comfortable life and was very content just hanging out with her family and friends. She was proudly independent until the end and the loving care of her son Shawn and family made that possible.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Edgewood Estates and all her friends who went over and above to be sure Mary was safe and content.
Nora, Janet and Mary were three close friends who watched out for each other. Thank you all.
Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Mary's wishes no formal service will be held.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the future.
We love you Baba and will miss you forever.

  • Condolences to all who were fortunate enough to have known Mary. She was the first person I met when I started at CRA in 1980. She was so sweet and funny and made a kid starting her 1st job feel so comfortable. I stopped working in 1986 to have a family. I started back in 1999 and when I saw Mary and she came up and gave me a hug. She was a very special lady - Posted by: Sherri Morrison (co-worker at CRA) on: Oct 09, 2021

  • I am saddened to learn of the passing of Mary. I worked in the leasing office at Edgewood Estates and would have daily contact with Mary as she would sit on the front bench waiting for Tim the shuttle bus driver to take her and the others gals shopping. Her and I would joke back and forth as she was witty and so full of life. We had many a laughs together. She was liked by all who came into contact with her. My sympathies to her family. - Posted by: Robin (Past Employee at Edgewood Estates) on: Oct 07, 2021

  • Mary has been involved in my mum's life for quite a long time. They were like 2 peas in a pod. They phoned each other about 8 times a day even though they only lived 3 floors apart at the block. Usually if you saw Mum, then Mary wasn't far behind, even with grocery shopping, etc. We loved Mary as part of our family. We all went to Celebrations one yr together and one New Years Eve to Brothers restaurant, where, small world, she had grown up in the same area as my husband's dad. When my own dad passed, Mary helped Mum get through it and we appreciated it very much. So Mary, Mum and our family will miss you so very much. Please keep looking out for mum from above as I know she misses you like crazy. Love to you and all you family. xoxo - Posted by: Julie and Derrick Ekosky (Our mum (in-law) is Norah - one of Mary's best friends.) on: Oct 02, 2021

  • We knew Mary and were next door neighbors at Edgewood Estates for many years. Mary was a kind quiet lovely lady. We used to enjoy many lunches and outings with her and the Edgewood group.
