MAYUK: On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, Oricia "Iris" Mayuk passed away peacefully with family by her side, at the age of 100 years. Iris was born October 6, 1921 to Nykola and Maria Burtnyk in the Haig District. As a small girl, she grew up on the family farm near Ethelbert, MB along with her sisters Emily and Olga and brother Russell. As a young lady she left the farm to look for adventure and her future in Ontario. Iris eventually moved back to Manitoba where she met her sweetheart, Ted Mayuk. On September 25, 1952, they married and were blessed with 65 happy years. Together they settled on a small mixed farm in the Vimy Ridge District at the foot of the scenic Duck Mountains where they raised three children. Iris loved to cook and bake, and she always had a savoury aroma coming from her kitchen. She provided for her family, cultivating her own garden with fresh vegetables that lasted for the year. She also loved to sing in the church choir and added her voice to the Ukrainian Ladies Choir as well. At Easter, family members were fortunate to receive a traditional pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg) that Iris handcrafted beautifully. During their happy farm years, Iris and Ted enjoyed hosting and visiting with relatives, friends, and neighbours, and loved a good card game on a Saturday night. Playing cards and drinking Pepsi around the kitchen table was a joy that continued with their children and grandchildren later in life. Above all, Iris took great pride in her family and always had everyone looking their best for outings, especially church on Sunday. She was also active with the lady's auxiliary of the Pine River Saints Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church. After retirement, Iris and Ted moved to Dauphin, eventually living their remaining years in Brandon, MB to be closer to family. A gentle and loving person with a keen sense of humour, Iris' priority in life was caring for others, especially her family. Iris was predeceased by her husband Ted in 2018, her parents and siblings. She leaves behind her daughter Bev (Terry) Powell, son Bill (Janice) Mayuk and daughter MaryAnn Teskey (Jack Braun). She will be fondly remembered by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mom (Baba) created memories that will be cherished by family and friends in our hearts and souls forever. The funeral service will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, Brandon on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Yaroslav Strukhlyak as celebrant and Stella Fedeniuk as cantor. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery. In compliance with Public Health Orders, proof of full immunization will be required. Donations in memory of Iris may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 185 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
