Edie was born and raised in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Edie pursued further education and travelled to Brandon, Manitoba. Edie worked in health care as a nurses' aid and LPN before graduating from the Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Edie was proud and truly honoured to be an RN. Edie was a great example of someone who believed in lifelong learning, both personally and professionally. Edie was kind, caring, gentle, unselfish and strong. Edie's ability for forgiveness and tolerance was unlike any other. She had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up a room. Family was the most important to Edie. Edie's greatest joy in the world was her grandchildren. Edie loved to sing, dance and laugh. She had a great sense of humour. Edie enjoyed fishing, gardening, and time spent with family at the lake. Edie enjoyed the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. Edie was the designer behind the first Westman Dreams for Kids Parade floats. She had a great imagination, and a special way of making them come alive.
