UNA ELAINE BERGNER
May 26, 1925 – November 10, 2021

It is with heavy and saddened hearts that the family of Una Bergner report her passing on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, just before midnight at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB.
Una was born in St. Paul, Minneapolis, USA, the second oldest daughter to Roy and Ethel Westfall. When she was six weeks old, the family moved to the Dog Lake area in the Manitoba Interlake.
Una was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 2012; parents, Roy and Ethel Westfall; in-laws, Robert and Paula Bergner; sisters, Margie and Alice; brother and sisters-in-law; nephew Jack (who they raised from the age of four years old) and many other nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Marlene (Ray) Stevenson, Lenore (Reg) Hoover, Lorne (Julie) Bergner and Debbi (Bert) Fortier; her sister Florence Wotton; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who were very important to her.
Una married Arthur Bergner on December 23, 1942 and they farmed in the Edison, Golbourne area until 1971. At this time they moved to Ashern, purchased a home and lived there until the early 2000s. They moved for a short time to Glencora Estates. Her last few years she enjoyed residing at the Pioneer Manor and playing cards in the evening. Una was a homemaker for many years. After moving to Ashern, she was then employed by the Lakeshore General Hospital in various positions until she retired in 1989.
Una always had time for family and friends. A walk downtown had many stops for chats and coffee.
She took great pleasure in Goodwill shopping, finding an awesome bargain which she usually tried to give away. Whatever she bought she wore and always looked very stylish.
Una was a role model to us all, of how to be caring of others, generous, enthusiastic and sharing a joke so there was laughter.
Una was a founding member of the Lakeshore Hospital Guild and was actively involved with the group until about two years ago when she could no longer manage. The work that the Guild did was important to her.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and health care aides who provided great care to her in her last days in hospital.
In keeping with Una's wishes, cremation has taken place. A service in her honour will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at the Ashern Centennial Hall with Reverend Deacon Cathie Clow officiating. Interment to follow at a later date.
In accordance with current Manitoba Public Health Orders, all persons wishing to attend the service must show proof of being fully vaccinated along with a valid Government photo ID card. Mask wearing is mandatory.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Julie Bergner, Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0
