McALLISTER: It is with sadness we announce the passing of Vernon A. McAllister at the age of 88, on December 4, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 65 years, Marge. He is also survived by his brother, David (Faye); daughter, Rhonda Crompton (Bill); three grandchildren: Christina (Shannon), Angela and Andrew, as well as three great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Vern was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Beatrice; sister, Doreen and son, Michael. Vern was employed for 28 years at the Brandon Mental Health Centre, where he spent many winter hours preparing the curling rink for operation, as well as working in transportation. In his retirement years, Vern had many hobbies but one of the more favourite activities was 10-pin bowling. This gave him pleasure and several trips to the USA to compete. Vern and Marge had a shared passion of showing and breeding pure breed Cairn Terriers. The family will be having a Celebration of Life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Vernon may be made to Funds for Furry Friends, 740 Rosser Ave Suite 208, Brandon, MB R7A 0K9.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Marge, so sorry to discover that Vern passed away. He was such a sweet man. I played 8Ball Pool with him fairly often on my phone. I knew he was good at playing as he was at level 122 yet he would often purposely lose so I would win!! I know my Mom and Dad (George and Andrea,Singbeil) used to come visit with you both in Brandon and do remember a visit I came to visit as well and had a great time. Always talking about the Cairn Terriers! Great memories of Vern and my condolences to you and the family. - Posted by: Druanne Naayen (Friend) on: Mar 02, 2022

  • I remember Vern fondly. We got along well. I always remember the day Vern and I were trying to put a tarp over the back of a half ton truck and the wind blew the tarp over on top of Vern. He began to punch, swear and threaten the tarp while trapped under it Funny funny funny. I assisted Vern at the curling rink many times and as I said. We got along well and I valued his friendship. - Posted by: Danny buchanan (Co worker) on: Jan 02, 2022
