SMITH: Claire Lucienne Marie Smith, aged 79 years, peacefully passed away with family by her side, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Claire was the youngest of seven children born to Alberta and Raphael Brichon on a farm just east of Toutes Aides. Claire attended a one room school ½ mile east of the farm. At the age of 16, she moved to Brandon and stayed with her sister Lucy and brother-in-law Bud. She attended St. Michael's Academy, attaining her grade 12. Claire then worked at the Brandon Mental Hospital. Claire met and married Bruce Smith of Brandon in 1962. In the next two years, two little bundles of joy were born: son Blair and daughter Denise. Claire was very particular about her and the children's appearances and her house was always spotless. She had a flair for having everything in just the right place. When Blair and Denise got a little bit older, Claire was able to join the YMCA and through the years kept herself fit with many interests such as golf, cross country skiing and long walks. Her most favorite things to do were aerobics and walking with Bruce on the golf course while he played: she was a great "flag girl". In 1968, Bruce and Claire bought Bruce's dad's part of G.T. Smith & Sons Electrical, and Claire later became the secretary and bookkeeper. They retired in 1995, when their son Blair took over the company. They spent their winters in the southern states visiting friends and relatives and their summers in Brandon and Clear Lake. Claire and Bruce had many friends, on both sides of the border, and I thank you all for making our lives so rich and enjoyable. Claire will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bruce; son Blair (Julie), granddaughter Danielle (Kaylah) and grandson Matthew; daughter Denise; sisters, Lucy (Garth), Irene, Yvonne and Simon (Tom); brothers Leon (Alida) and Andre (Marlene); brother-in-law Dennis (Gail) Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Bruce's parents Dan and Eleanor, brothers-in-law Bud and Charles Smith, Louie Beauchmin, Tony Grenier and infant grandson Michael Smith. Claire was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and was very proud of the accomplishments of her children. A Celebration of Claire's Life will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Claire may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 185 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7.

Claire, we know you are curled up with a big bowl of popcorn, sitting in a comfortable recliner and reading a book by one of your favorite authors from the "free" library in heaven. We will love and miss you forever.
-Bruce, Blair, Julie, Danielle, Matthew and Denise
P.S. You always looked like a runway model, even in a $30.00 outfit from one of your favorite discount stores
P.P.S. I will try to keep your house as tidy as you did.
All My Love,
Bruce
