KURT GILBERT DESJARLAIS
October 11, 1962 January 13, 2022
Suddenly on January 13, 2022 at the Selkirk & District General Hospital, our dad passed away way too soon.
Left to mourn: Lifelong partner Donna; his children, Destiny (Kevin), Kurt Jr. aka "Habtu" (Desni), Jamie and Jeremy Bear and Tamara Desjarlais; his step-daughters, Trinisha and Natasha Wood; his grandchildren, Braeden, Randi, Colton, Dion, Memphis, Kashis, Maddox, Zetta, Liam, Logan, Lynnaya, Chad Jr., Jada; his brother Orton and sisters, Evelyn and Brenda; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nephews and lifelong friends.
He was predeceased by his mother Mildred and father Sam; his brothers, Rhinald, Charles and Earl Sr., sisters and a brother in infancy.
Our Dad was born in Pinefalls, Manitoba, and was the youngest sibling of the family. He grew up in Scanterbury and resided there all his life.
He worked when he was younger at the Nutty Club in Winnipeg. He worked at Wawataik Building Supplies as a Sales Rep for many years until its closing. It is here that he made many lifelong friends. After the closing of WaWaTaik, Kurt was employed by Brokenhead Ojibway Nation and held many different positions until his passing.
Kurt had many hobbies. He was an active and competitive pool player. He played in the AActive Pool League on the "Just Wanna Play" and "Dukes of Earl" pool teams. He had many friends over the years in the pool league. In the Spring to Fall, you could find him on the Golf Courses multiple times a week. His favourite tournament of the Year was the SERDC Spirit of Giving Tournament. He hadn't missed a tournament since 2005. He was always up for the two man or four man best ball tournaments that would happen each year. He was part of the Brokenhead Golf Group that had a standing Tee Time at the Mars Sandhills Golf Course every Friday at 4:45 p.m. He always kept up with the PGA Golf Tournaments and even the LPGA. He definitely was a big fan of the Game of Golf. He was also a familiar face in many bingo halls, in Manitoba and as far away as Kenora on a regular basis. When his mother was alive, he enjoyed playing NCI bingo every Saturday morning with her. He is also a big Jets and Bomber fan, he enjoyed watching his teams play. From a young age, he and his family were big WWE fans. There were many trips to the old Winnipeg Arena to watch wrestling.
His most favourite past time was watching his grandchildren or nieces and nephews play their sports; basketball, hockey, golf, baseball, pool, whatever it was they were involved in, he was their biggest fan, a proud Papa and Uncle.
When his grandchildren came along 19 years ago, he had a new title "Papa." He spent time teaching golf, fishing, watching them play hockey, basketball. Having his kids and grandkids together for family get togethers was a happy time for him, filled with memories that we will not forget.
