IRENE FOTIUK
(nee KAMINSKI)

Peacefully, with her children by her side, Irene passed away at the age of 91 years, on January 24, 2022, to be reunited with the love of her life, Walter Fotiuk.
Mom will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children, Greg (Bev) and Linda; and her grandchildren, Wally (Amy) and Clayton. Irene was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Walter Fotiuk; and her parents, Nellie and William Kaminski; her brothers, Bill and Rodney Kaminski; and her nephews, Billy Fotiuk and Len Kaminski. She is survived by her sister-in-law Florence Kaminski; and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was born and raised in Narol, Manitoba. She worked very hard alongside Dad to raise their family. She worked at Blue Ribbon and at Drivers Auto, as well as on the farm in Narol so they could save to build a home on Fearn Avenue, where they raised their children, Greg and Linda. Mom was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Granny to Wally and Clayton. Mom and Dad also built a cottage at Jessica Lake in 1961, and we have enjoyed each and every year at the cottage with mom for 60 years. Mom was lovingly known as Granny or Auntie Irene to many family and friends.
Mom lived at Edgewood Estates for over 25 years after moving from Fearn Avenue. She made many wonderful friends there. Mom was not one to sit still so she organized bus trips, crib nights and bingo nights for the building. Mom enjoyed golfing, crib, bocce ball, bingo and especially her casino outings with her very dear friend Ollie. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Irene was one of the first people I met when I moved into Edgewood Estates and she remained my neighbour (two doors down) for many years. I sat across from her at crib for years and she had me take over from her near the end. My thoughts are with her entire family and my apologies for not writing sooner but I only just found her obituary. She'll live with us forever. - Posted by: Monique Gibbons (Friend, neighbor) on: Apr 08, 2022

  • So very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Know that our thoughts are with you both during this difficult time. - Posted by: Tom and Wendy Wildeman (Friends) on: Feb 04, 2022

  • Very sorry to the family and friends of Irene. Wishing you peace during this difficult time. I had the privilege of being Irenes hairdresser. I just wanted to say how Irene inspired me to live every day to the fullest. From organizing activities at the block, and shopping for nice clothes. To loving your family, unconditionally. My favorite story is Irene telling me she ruined her hair for the week. By going jet skiing, on or around her 80th birthday! She was a wonderful, smart, strong woman. It was an honor to know her. - Posted by: Carrie Whitford (Hairdresser of 20+ yrs) on: Feb 04, 2022
