ALLAN JAMES JOHNSON
1943 - 2022
Allan James Johnson (dad) peacefully passed away, with his loving family by his side on February 4, 2022.
Dad was born in Winnipeg in 1943 to Stewart and Gladys Johnson. He was the oldest of three boys who reportedly kept their parents very busy getting into all kinds of mischief. Dad is survived by his wife and best friend Veronica (mom), son Corey (wife Debbie, children, Aurora, Kai and Ashton) and daughter Lisa (husband Jeff, son Noel).
Dad grew up in St. James and attended St. James Collegiate, where he met mom, and their life journey began. He started at Air Canada at age 16 and worked his way up to flight scheduler until the early 1980s when entrepreneurship came calling. Dad, mom and partners purchased the Oakbank Family Fare grocery store. Business ownership was a real source of pride and accomplishment for dad. He and mom always felt gratitude towards the Springfield area and some of their happiest memories were when they gave back to the community that had supported their business throughout the years.
Grateful to have been able to retire early and have the time to enjoy the things he loved, he and mom travelled the world and made unforgettable lifelong memories. The move to the lake (Buffalo Point) in 2014 was then a natural way to be close to nature, and golf (his other loves). Always biased towards the Lake of the Sandhills course at Buffalo Point, dad was fortunate to enjoy rounds at many different courses in Manitoba and Western Canada.
Dad lived life to its fullest in a quiet, kind manner. He was someone who always made himself available to lend a helping hand when needed and encouraged his friends and family to do the same.
A Celebration of Life will be held later when friends and family can gather safely.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba.
