BURROWS, Eilleen
July 4, 1925 –
February 8, 2022
Eilleen Burrows (nee Anderson) passed away February 8, 2022 alongside her loving daughters Rebecca and Nola. A self-described 'Prairie girl', Mum cherished the memories of her happy childhood on the Anderson family farm in RM Oakland (township). The youngest of six children, Mum and her siblings spent endless carefree hours, every season, on nearby Lake Clementi. Mum's commitment to life-long learning began in the one-room Little Souris School No. 227 - a 2 ½ mile walk from home. Soon after turning 16, Mum enrolled in Brandon Business College. She married Jack Fulcher, Brandon, in 1947, and they moved to Exeter, Ontario, where they designed and built the family home. Mum excelled as a loving and devoted mother, and her many, thoughtful innovations – a family suggestion box; dinner-time discussion topics – were all passed down. In 1972, Mum married Gil Burrows, and they moved to Winnipeg to begin their lives together. Among their happiest memories was a trip to Ireland to visit the home of Mum's father in Ballymoney – Mum's life-long dream. After Gil's passing, Mum enrolled in the University of Winnipeg, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Classics. She accepted a position as Alumni Affairs Coordinator at the University, was later promoted to Director of Alumni Affairs, and was appointed the first-ever female president of the University Faculty Club. Soon after accepting the positon of Director of Development and Alumnae at Winnipeg's Balmoral Hall School, Mum created and was appointed Editor of 'The Portal' - the School's first and much-cherished magazine. Mum had many passions – the Leafs and the Canadiens … and travel adventures to the Arctic and iron-curtain Russia, to Australia and throughout Europe. Her greatest love was time spent and truly connecting with family and friends. Many of Mum's friendships spanned decades and international time zones. A lover of all performing arts, Mum regularly attended ballet and symphony, and was also an enthusiastic rock-concert groupie – but "only the biggies", from Paul McCartney to Elton John and The Rolling Stones. Mum made sure she was always very current – well-informed, and well-read. For the five of us, there is comfort and healing in knowing how much we were loved by Mum: Vic Fulcher, Bruce Fulcher, James Fulcher, Rebecca Heaslip and Nola Soliman. Mum's seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren have their own precious memories – their family suggestion boxes among them -- that will also last forever. John and I were so sorry to hear of Eileen’s passing. Eileen was a client of our salon, John’s Hair Designers, for many years when she lived in Winnipeg up to the time she moved back to Ontario. She was a bright, interesting and lovely lady. We feel privileged to have known her. - Posted by: John and Angie Unger (Client) on: Feb 26, 2022
