Hornibrook Clara Hornibrook 1913-2022 Clara was born in Blanshard Municipality to parents Esther (Hyndman) Short and George Holwell Short. She went to Medina School and Oak River High School. She graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital as a registered nurse in 1936. Nursing jobs took her to Geneva, N.Y., Jacksonville, Florida, and Santa Barbara, California. Following the war she married her childhood sweetheart, Bill Hornibrook, on Valentine's Day 1946. They returned to Blanshard RM to farm a mile from her childhood home. When Rivers Hospital opened in 1960, Clara returned to nursing on a fairly regular basis until 1983. Clara enjoyed the arts. She played the piano as a child and learned to play the organ after retirement. She was a water colour painter and loved to paint the prairie landscape in every season. Clara was predeceased by her husband Bill and daughter Carmen Neal as well as her brother Lawrence Short and sister Muriel Westwood. Her "sailing mate and dance partner" Fred Kruger who was a loving companion in her later years also predeceased her. She is survived by her older sister Hazel Patmore Skuce; her children Richard Hornibrook and Ruth Stewart; son-in-law Tom Neal; and by Glenda and Dan Broeska. She is lovingly remembered by seven grandchildren and numerous great grands. Clara enjoyed life lived at Lion's Manor, Brandon for 18 years. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
