MICHAEL (MIKE) SOLODIUK
July 27, 1933 - March 21, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. After a valiant battle with cancer Mike passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the St. Boniface Hospital.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Lucy; two sons, Jim Solodiuk (Jacquie Saltel) and David Solodiuk; as well as his stepchildren, Larry Therrien, Dan Therrien, Darlene Therrien (Dave Windeatt), Mike Therrien (Brenda); as well as grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Lisa, Terry, Melissa, Kelly, Wesley, Andrea, Shayla and Sheldon. He will also be missed by his brother Ted Solodiuk; and sisters, Emily Surovy, Mary Pyne, and Olga Martens. He was predeceased by his parents, John Solodiuk and Pearl Greinke; his first wife Dorothy (Hacault), brothers, Paul, Andy, Bill, John, Peter and Steve; and sisters, Ann Solodiuk, Doris Smolarski and Pauline Storostic.
Mike was born in Sarto, MB and left at an early age. He soon began his career with CP as a machinist, where he stayed for 29 years. He also volunteered for about 10 years part-time with St. John Ambulance. Mike was a patriotic member of the Norwood Legion and it was there that he and Lucy enjoyed dancing, playing bingo and gathering with their friends. Mike took part in many parades and enjoyed supporting the veteran community. He loved all sports and had talked about taking his scooter to catch a ball game. He may not have made it there, but he did have some pretty good adventures on that scooter! Since he married Lucy, 17 years ago, she was the love of his life and he became a very special member of the family he embraced as his own, sharing in all the special moments.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital, as well as to everyone who helped Lucy in the previous months and weeks.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.

My condolences to Jim and David for the passing of their father. David, you might not remember me, but I went to school with your first cousin Antoine Hacault in Somerset.
