HUME, Robert ~ February 18, 1967 - March 24, 2022 It is with great sadness that the family of Rob Hume announces his passing on March 24 at his home in Onanole with his family by his side. Rob was born in Hamiota hospital and grew up in Oak River where he also spent a good part of his adult years. He attended school in Oak River from K-Gr 9 and then moved on to Rivers for Gr 10-12. Rob excelled at many sports with hockey and baseball being his favorites. He participated on multiple teams and was fortunate to be able to travel the country and meet lots of friends in his youth through sports. At the young age of 16, Rob had his first job at Bonanza, where he fell in love with the culinary arts trade and made his career in it. He was known for his creativity in this field and had a great reputation at any kitchen he worked in. He spent the bulk of his career as executive chef at Elkhorn Resort. His determined work ethic is what made him successful in his sport, his career and in life in general. Rob was diagnosed with diabetes at 13 years of age. He did his best to not let that get in the way of living his best life. He had many adventures along the way and made great lifelong friends. He was most proud of his children and was extremely grateful to have been given the time to watch them grow into amazing adults. His love for his children grew with the addition of a grandson and granddaughter that he was overjoyed to have been able to spend time with. Rob is predeceased by his father, Jack Hume. He is lovingly survived by his mother, Donna Hume, children Bryson Baker (Sarah), Brandi Hume (Wade), Trinity Hume, grandson Brody Baker, granddaughter Kallie Baker, brother Jeff Hume, sister Jacquie (Norm) Gage, nephew Rylan Gage and niece Reanna Gage. A private graveside burial will take place at Oak River Cemetery at a later date. Donations can be made in Rob's name to Diabetes Canada.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I loved working with Rob at North Haven. He always brought a fun energy to the kitchen and really cared about his staff. I will always remember how hard he laughed when he walked in on us waitresses and the pastry chef singing and dancing to Lizzo in the kitchen after a dinner service during our last summer at NH. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Amy Borges (Coworker) on: Apr 06, 2022
