DOROTHY ELIZABETH GLORY THOM
Peacefully, on March 28, 2022, at Grace Hospital, Mom passed away after suffering a brief illness and a stroke.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Hiram Cooper; her husband of 52 years and love of her life, Wilfred Thom; her second husband Culver Warren; and brother and sister-in-law, Sonny and Hazel West.
Left to mourn her loss are her daughter Sharon (Terry); son Terry (Cathleen); beloved grandchildren, Allyson (Mike), Kara and Madelyn; and cherished great-grandson Henry. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her newest great-grandchild. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She adored her bird Cody, and all the birds that came before, but no one came before her grandchildren in her heart. The girls were her heart and soul, and there was never a missed opportunity for Bubbie to brag about them.
Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg where she met and married Dad. They moved to St. James in 1960 where she continued to live until she passed. Mom made everyone in her life feel special and important. She was interested in so many things; she loved to read, roller skate, teach her bird to talk, lead Girl Guides, and entertain her many friends.
One of Mom's favourite things was her lifelong joy of being a Brownie leader. She was a Brownie leader for over 50 years, and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, for her outstanding contributions to Girl Guides of Canada. Her role in helping to shape lives meant so much to her.
Mom loved travelling and was forever telling stories of her adventures in Mexico with Wilf. No one could spend five minutes with Dot without laughing at her stories. She faithfully attended Prairie Spirit United Church and never missed a Sunday at worship if she could help it.
Mom will be missed by many, and we will never forget her warm laughter, generous soul, and heartfelt love.
A special thank you to all of the staff at Grace Hospital 3S, who showed such care and compassion to the woman we loved so much.
A celebration of Mom's life is planned for April 25, 2022, at Prairie Spirit United Church at 11:00 a.m. Masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Dot and my father (Sydney Betteridge) were next door neighbours for over 25 years. Dot and Wilf and then Dot and Culver were always friendly and helpful towards my father. In my father’s last years, Dot and Culver were invaluably helpful to my father, would frequently check up on him, including attending to him after he was badly sunburnt (due to being unable to rise from his chaise-lounge) Dot also alerted me to the reappearance of a financial predator targeting my father, the first step in resolving that problem, which I am very thankful for. When I became Power of Attorney for my father after his hospitalization, Dot and Culver helped me more than my own family. She was one of the only true friends my father ever had. She was a true friend to both my father and me. Dot lived real Christian values and her memory deserves to be honoured. I wish more people were like her. - Posted by: Jordan Betteridge (family friend) on: Jul 07, 2022

My condolences to the family; and to daughter Sharon. Dot was always friendly towards me and I enjoyed hearing her many stories and how she loved traveling as well as her stories about her time with the Girl Guides and Brownies. She was a lovely lady. - Posted by: GILLIAN WELSH (FRIEND ANDCOLLEAGUE AT PRAIRIESPIRIT UNITED CHURCH) on: May 01, 2022

I had only known Dot for about a year and a half. We chatted weekly and it was a pleasure getting to know this independent, well spoken woman. She spoke fondly of her family, friends, neighbours, and her parrot Cody. I never knew how old she was until after she passed away. She had the demeanor of someone much younger. She will be missed. My sincere sympathies. - Posted by: Holly (Friend) on: Apr 25, 2022
