DOREEN PAYNE
(née IGNOT)

February 24, 1936 – April 24, 2022

We are deeply saddened to announce that Doreen Lois Payne passed away, with loved ones by her side, at Riverview Palliative Care on Sunday, April 24.
Doreen was the loving, kind and beautiful wife to Donald Payne, mother of Greg and Tracey Payne, mother-in-law to Laurie Payne and Joe Behen, grandmother to Kayla, Adriana, Kristina and Chloe, sister to Gale Powers, aunt and a dear friend to many.
Although Doreen was battling health issues over the past few years, most recently, she was diagnosed with late-stage kidney disease. Fortunately, for many years she enjoyed a healthy, vibrant life and was extremely grateful for all the happy memories she shared with loved ones and friends.
Doreen's passing is a deep loss for her loving husband of over 62 years, Don. Together they lived life, "not waiting for the storms to pass, but learning how to dance together in the rain."
Doreen was a dedicated, loving mother and had a heart of gold, caring for many others throughout her life. She enjoyed a long, successful career in commercial real estate, excelling in a demanding role. She was always curious, loved to explore and go for long walks. She was a gifted gardener, cook and seamstress, enjoyed golfing with friends when she was younger and loved music and dancing, no matter her age.
Mom, our hearts are broken but your love lives on. We will find you in the garden now, forever blooming with your love and kindness.
Out of respect for Doreen's wishes, there will be an intimate family gathering at a date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to a charity of your choice in Doreen's memory.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We are so sorry to hear about Doreen’s passing. Our sincere condolences to Don, Greg, Tracy and their extended family. We met Doreen through the H&H group and their wives. She was kind, loads of fun, easily met and always had a smile on her face. She and Don were always first on the dance floor and sure knew how to have a good time and it was infectious. Janice & I took her mom Rene to Cuba at the same time as the H&H group and they all took her under their wing, especially Doreen, making it one of Rene’s fondest memories. Thanks for all the good times! Brian & Janice - Posted by: Brian Baizley & Janice Day (Friends) on: May 12, 2022

  • Twenty six years ago we started up a ladies group called the splurge sisters. We would take turns hosting with a wonderful dinner and plenty of wine. Over the years we would go to Grand Forks and Fargo hunting for bargains and we sure could find them. We then would come back to our rooms and put on a fashion show to show off our great finds with appetizers and plenty of wine. We also would have our annual lake weekend at one of the girls cabins with tournaments in bean bag toss, golf ball toss or cards. There was so much laughter and good times with plenty of food and wine. It was there that we came up with our own motto "what happens at splurge stays at splurge." Doreen was the Maître Ark of our group and will be deeply missed for her wisdom, her funny little joke, her witty little sayings and her warmth. Although Doreen will not be with us in body we know she will still be with us in spirit (she would never miss a good time). And last but not least you can all thank us for keeping the wine breweries in business . We love you Doreen, Lynn M, Susan T, Wendy R Lil S, Michelle L, Carolann D, Laurie G. - Posted by: Lil Stefaniuk (Long time friend) on: May 04, 2022

  • Doreen & I met when I moved to River Heights in grade 9. We biked to school together if the weather permitted, walked or took the city bus. I was included when the family went to Lake Brenton, Cat sat when the family went away. Later we went to the same parties, Doreen was always kind, & ready to lend a helping hand with sewing, or encouragement when needed. I will miss my dear friend. - Posted by: Donna Mowat (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2022
