VAN BERKEL: Jan Adriaan van Berkel, age 94 years, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 in Brandon, MB. Adriaan was born in Waddinxveen, the Netherlands, emigrated to Canada in 1951 and married Cornelia Möhle on April 13, 1952, with whom he lived on the North Hill for 53 years. Adriaan worked at the Brandon Mental Health Centre for 37 years and part-time at the Brandon Sun for more than 20 years. He was a founding member of the Brandon First Christian Reformed Church and long-time caretaker at the Wayside Chapel on Highway 1. Adriaan was a strong, honest and simple man. He loved to work outside and garden. Upon his retirement in 1990, he cleaned snow for seniors, and he loved to bike and go camping with Corrie and their Boler. Adriaan is survived by his wife Corrie; children Anthony (Merly), Daniel (Jo), Andrew (Fariba), Lis (Lisa) and David; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother Piet (Corrie) of Zwölle, the Netherlands. He was predeceased by sons Richard and John, two sisters and five brothers. The family is grateful to Rideau Park Personal Care Home. The Funeral Service will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North, Brandon on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Evert Busink officiating. Private interment will take place prior to the service.
