AMELIA GWENDOLYN KOMUS
(SCOTT)
Peacefully, on June 18, 2022 at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Gwen Komus passed away at the age of 98.
She was predeceased by her parents, Annie (1971) and George (1986), daughter Carol (2009), beloved husband Art (2014), brother Keith (2015) and granddaughter Marlene (2016), as well as many from her extended family.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Scott (Sheelagh) and Lori (Lawrence), son-in-law Blair (Julie), grandchildren, Chris, Heather (Cam), Shena, Sara (Gerald), and great-granddaughter Nilaya.
Gwen was born on the family farm in Oak Lake, Manitoba on May 9, 1924. After completing her business course in Brandon, she worked as an administrative assistant in Wawanesa before moving to Winnipeg. While working at CN Telecommunications, she met Art at the Winnipeg Roller Rink, and they married on September 4, 1948. Gwen enjoyed a loving and long (66 years) marriage with Art and together, they created a warm and caring environment for their children.
Gwen travelled with Art to Europe and visited Art's relatives while also seeing where Gwen's ancestors had lived. Gwen and Art also travelled to Mexico to visit Carol and Blair.
Gwen and Art bought a cottage at West Lake in 1989 and spent many splendid years there entertaining friends and family and watching their grandchildren grow up.
Gwen was artistically talented and created many beautiful paintings. She also made a wide variety of crafts. Gwen was also musical and enjoyed playing the piano and organ, as well as listening to classical music.
Gwen was an inspiration to everyone. She had an optimistic attitude about life and was so kind and compassionate, always putting others before herself. She was also strong and courageous while dealing with family losses and battling cancer for the past 20 years.
A special thank you to all the staff at Kiwanis Assisted Living, Home Care and Palliative Care for their support.
