DANIELLA (DANI) KENDEL
February 10, 1999 June 20, 2022
It is with indescribable sorrow that we returned our baby girl back to God suddenly on Monday, June 20, 2022. We will be eternally grateful for the 23 years she blessed us with and her many cherished memories. Daniella exuded an inner radiance and love that touched all that she met.
She leaves to mourn her passing her parents, Angie and Kevin Kendel, big sister Jessica (John) Taves, big sister Amber Kendel, big brother Kyle (Shari) Kendel, nephews and niece, Koltyn, Sadie and Karson, and Grampa Paul Shewchuk. Special caregivers and EA's over the years included Cathie Hurrell, Kristina Heilman, Bonnie-Jean Oake and all those too numerous to mention but no less loved and appreciated. She will also be missed by her extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Howard and Verna Kendel, Anne Shewchuk, and her aunt Penny Oneschuk.
Daniella was born with Senior Loken Syndrome, leaving her blind, developmentally delayed, epileptic and with kidney failure at three years old, resulting in a kidney transplant at five years old. Dani was the first child with her disability to receive a transplant. Her successful transplant and improved quality of life for many years set the precedent for her doctors to advocate worldwide for countless other children with disabilities to become recipients for organ donations. She never allowed her disabilities to hold her back, living life to the fullest, with such gratitude, curiosity, and enthusiasm, showering everyone with the special magic that was Dani. She was a true inspiration.
Dani attended Dr. Hamilton school, Robert Andrews, and River East Collegiate, graduating in 2020, when COVID-19 shut schools down. She missed her friends desperately over the last few years. Dani loved her music, swings, boating, swimming, travelling, playing Yahtzee (she was a Yahtzee Queen), snuggling, biking, getting mani's and pedi's, and spending time with those she loved. You could always count on her to have a huge smile, mischievous giggle, a loud "I love you" and a huge "MMWWAA" - her sound for blowing a kiss! Her Daddy was wrapped around her pinkie from the day she was born, and she loved to beat him at Yahtzee. She treasured her special time "hanging out downstairs" with big sister Jess while snuggling or doing manicures. She loved her snuggles and swimming with her mom. Dani loved sparkles, especially her sparkly nail polish - purple sparkles were her favourite!
Everyone is welcome to join her family and friends in wearing sparkly purple nail polish in her honour, at her Celebration of Life at Glen Eden Funeral Chapel on July 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.
A special thank you to the Pediatric Nephrology team at Children's Hospital and Adult Nephrology at Health Sciences Centre for many years of wonderful care. Thank you to her Neurology team and the wonderful care she received over the years from all the medical staff and her support staff from Children's disABILITY Services and Community Living and disABILITY Services. Thank you to ALL of the emergency responders who fought so hard to help her and the staff at St. Boniface emergency and ICU for their love and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children's Hospital Foundation or the Children's Wish Foundation in Daniella Kendel's honour.
You are now singing sweetly with the Angels * Flying with the Butterflies * and running happily in Heaven's Meadows
