BARBARA JOAN SCHMIDT
Peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022, with her family by her side, Barb passed away at the age of 66, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Surgical ICU Unit.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Verna Kosowan.
Barb is survived by her husband Darryl, her three children and five grandchildren: her favourite son Terry (Janelle, Mathieu, Madeleine, Mila), her favourite daughter Barbie (Jeff, Charlotte, Brielle) and her favourite stepdaughter Mercedes (Julius). Barb was exceptionally proud of her grandchildren like any grandmother would be and they have many fond memories to remember her by.
Barb was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the North End, later moving to River Heights where she raised her family.
Barb worked as an accountant and had many places of employment through the years at Champs, ID Engineering/ Stantec, Ladco, Children's Hospital Foundation, and Crosier Kilgour.
In her retirement years she spent most of her weekdays caring for her grandkids. The kids were so lucky to have been able to spend this time with their loving grandma Barb. When she was home, you could find her sitting on her front porch enjoying a nice summer day or tending to her beautiful flowers. Barb had a special knack for home decor and design and her talent can be seen throughout her and her children's homes.
Barb had beaten breast cancer once 10 years ago, but it came back with a vengeance in 2020. She fought it with all her might!
The family would especially like to thank all of the wonderful nurses at the Vic Cancer Care Unit, she spoke about each and every one that she had met during her treatments. Thank you very much from the family for taking such good care of her. You all made it that much easier for her. The family would also like to thank Cancer Care MB, Vic Urgent Care, Grace Emergency and ICU and the St. Boniface Hospital ICU for their care.
As per her wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
Condolences may be sent to www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
And as Barb would always say F.U. Cancer.
