ATHANASIOS (TOM) PAPANIKOLAOU


It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Athanasios (Tom) Papanikolaou, beloved husband, father, brother and uncle on July 21, 2022 at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 84.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Stamatina, and their sons, Chris and Jimmy. He will be deeply missed by his sister Voula Koutroubis (Dimitrios); his brothers, Kostas Papanikolaou (Evangelia) and Vassilis Papanikolas (Ioanna); brothers-in-law, Giorgios Anagnostopoulos (Fotini) and Theofani Anagnostopoulos; sister-in-law Kostoula Anagnostopoulou, and his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Christos and Vassiliki; and his youngest son Billy.
Tom was born in the village of Piana, Greece on March 25, 1938. As a young man, he served in the Greek army before immigrating to Canada in 1965 to start a new life in Winnipeg. Tom was a loving and hard-working family man and a devoted board member of the Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church.
The family would like to thank the dedicated medical and support staff at the Health Sciences Centre for the care they provided.
Funeral service will be held at Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church, 197 Euclid Ave. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church.
