THOMASSEN: It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Joseph Thomassen on August 2, 2022. Joseph was born on May 9, 1930, in the Netherlands. He later moved to Canada in 1958. He completed his high school education in Germany at the Academy of Gold and Silversmith. His cultural background was Dutch, and he spoke many languages that included Dutch, German, Belgium, and English. Joe immigrated to Canada where he opened and owned his own jewelry business for 60 years. He was a city councilman for eight years, sat on the school board for 14 years, and was part of the multicultural board. He also helped build a few soccer parks around Brandon. Joe was predeceased by his first wife Jose in 1987. On January 21, 1989, he married Edna Clarkson. Joe's greatest love was his family, and he will be lovingly remembered by Edna, son Randy (Linda), daughter Terry (Randy), stepchildren Lyndon, Shannan, and Karla, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A private family gravesite service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice, if you wish.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My sincere condolences to Randy, Terry-Lee, their families and extended family. With pain in my heart I read that Uncle Jo passed away. I have always had fond memories of you. It is all the more painful that we have lost sight of each other. Very sorry for the loss of your loved one. I've googled before to find something about you, but now it's too late. I wanted to meet Uncle Jo again, but it wasn't meant to be. You are all doing well with warm regards from Patrick Sweelssen, Vuursteen 6, 5521 WC Eersel, The Netherlands, Patrick.sweelssen@upcmail.nl - Posted by: Patrick Sweelssen (Nephew) on: Dec 26, 2022

  • Our condolences to Randy, Terry and families, as well as Edna. We have known Joe since he came to Canada. He made my wife Darlene’s engagment ring back in 1976 and she still receives complements on it. Joe was a wonderful man who was always willing to help others. His passing is a great loss to the community. - Posted by: John & Darlene Van Mulligen (Friend) on: Aug 18, 2022
