VERNE KENNETH PRIOR
1936 - 2022
Verne passed away peacefully on August 8 in Parksville, B.C.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lois, his son, Scott Prior and family, his son Brent Prior and wife Carol, his daughter Jodi Prior and husband Craig Simpson, and beloved grandchildren, Brody and Ava.
Verne is also survived by his sister Carol Karschuk, his nephew Blake, and niece Lesley.
In later years Verne's life was marked by dementia - which was the greatest injustice for a good heart and a life well-lived.

When my brother Tom went to the University of Manitoba, he brought a friend home for summer holidays. That friend was Verne. I was 3. Verne lived with us until he and Lois married. I remember Verne and Lois so well, despite my young age. They were so kind and patient with me. I've always called Verne my "other brother". Tom never moved home again, but Verne stayed. I knew Verne much better than my real brother, because I was so very young when Tom left home. Verne was also one of the smartest men I've ever met. He was kind, compassionate, and caring. I'll always remember him and think of him as a brother. - Posted by: Barbara Mann (Family friend) on: Jan 17, 2024

I worked with Verne many long years ago at BC Hydro in Vancouver. He gave me the nickname Fuchsia because I couldn't spell it when he put me on the spot, haha! He was always so lovely and kind, and one of my favorite things ever was seeing him in a Coca-Cola commercial. He popped into my head today and I'm deeply saddened he is gone, so I'm sending much warmth and compassion to his family. He is missed. xo - Posted by: Heather Cohen (Co-worker) on: Dec 06, 2023

I'm sorry to find this so late. Lois and family my deepest condolences from the entire Dawley Family. I personally have fond memories as a child while visiting CKCK and Uncle Verne (mom and dad insisted I call him Uncles Verne) full of humour and fun. As one of my fathers Garth Dawley's (1933-2020) best friends and both Lois and Verne good friends of my family during the Regina years. How lucky was I when Verne Joined Manitoba Hydro and I got to work with him during my career. Fun, caring and full of life and compliments is how I will remember him. I remember when Dad told me how lucky I would be to find one friend like Verne was to him, in my life. A treasured friend. I will always remember him. Deepest condolences to Lois and the entire Prior family. Cindy Dawley - Posted by: Cindy Dawley (Colleague) on: Oct 20, 2022

Verne was highly professional as both a broadcaster and public relations executive. I first met him in 1963 at CFQC TV in Saskatoon, and my wife Lorraine and I became good friends with Verne and Lois in the following years. Verne was a man of great humour and quick wit - and we were deeply saddened to learn that dementia had invaded his later years. From Lorraine and from me, our heartfelt sympathy to Lois and the family. Mike McCourt - Posted by: Mike McCourt (Former colleague, friend) on: Aug 24, 2022

Verne and I go all the way back to Glenlawn Collegiate in St. Vital. I lost track of him until one day in Saskatoon, I think, I turned on the TV to see Verne. He was having a rough time as apparently the air conditioning in the studio was on the fritz and the hot lights of a tv studio didn't help. I didn't know we had both entered the world of broadcasting. Verne and I had the pleasure of acting as masters of MCs at the Glenlawn Reunion in 1883. It was fun and he was always a light in any room. Arvel and I are so sorry to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Murray Parker (friend, colleague) on: Aug 20, 2022
