STANLEY: It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Elsie Pearl Stanley on Friday, August 26th, 2022 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend as well as a caring, strong, generous, independent, busy woman. She will be greatly missed. Elsie was born, the eldest of four children, on November 2nd, 1932 in the R.M. of North Norfolk making her almost 90 years old. She moved to MacGregor to live with her grandparents to attend high school in Grade 8. Nursing school followed at Brandon General Hospital, graduating in 1954. Elsie worked in Saskatchewan and MacGregor, Manitoba as a nurse until she married Ken Stanley on May 25th, 1955. They moved to the family farm where she helped work the dairy and grain farm. She said she had to suddenly cook for three men and only knew how to poach eggs and warm up soup. Elsie was a wonderful cook, so she came a long way. She went to work at Fairview Personal Care Home in 1970 until her retirement in 1991. Elsie stayed active her entire life with Baby Band, Messengers, 4-H, the United Church Women and helping with community events. Elsie didn't sit still for very long – always willing to help the neighbours, to working in the garden, she was always busy doing something. She was an active member of local bowling and curling leagues as well as Snowgoers. Elsie loved to travel, she and Ken went on many a cold weather adventures including snowmobiling to Yorkton, Winnipeg and Minot and trips throughout Canada including both coasts as well as California, Texas and Florida. In 2011, they sold the family farm and moved to Brandon. Ken and Elsie had three children: Dawna, Debbie and Bryan and eventually three grandchildren: Dallas, Tyler Figol and Tristen Kruk. Her family, farming, nursing and volunteering were the center of her life. Elsie was a family person and loved to have gatherings at the farm with many family members. There were many Christmas dinners, barbeques, and ball games. She is survived by daughters Dawna (Dennis) Figol, Debbie (Bill Shoup), and son Bryan, grandsons Dallas and Tyler Figol, granddaughter Tristen (Troy) Kruk, great-grandson Taelyn Kruk, sisters Sylvia Roberts, and Beth (Hubert) Halladay, and brother Jeff (Noreen) Templeton and many nephews and nieces. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Harry Stanley and parents John and Elizabeth (Prosser) Templeton. Elsie was healthy and active until August 26, 2022. She had just moved to Riverheights Terrace and was looking forward to living there. The Celebration of Elsie's Life was held at Knox United Church on Thursday, September 8, 2022 with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Elsie to the Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation, 404 18th Street North, Brandon, MB, R7A 7P3.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Growing up in the country our neighbours and friends were just down the road. Elsie Stanley was not only a neighbour but a great friend. Memories of going to school with the Stanley children and going to their house to visit and have treats including picking apples off the crabapple trees in the back yard. Lots of good memories. Our condolences and thoughts are with the family in this time. May the memories of Elsie feel that void. - Posted by: Donna Woods(Fox) (Friend) on: Sep 02, 2022
