LILLIAN (LIL) ATAMANCHUK
July 11, 1927 - August 25, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Lil at Holy Family Home on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the age of 95.

Last of the Kowaliuk Clan and
Matriarch of the Kowaliuk Family.

Lil Atamanchuk (Kowaliuk) was born and raised in Arbakka, MB, Lil moved to Winnipeg in 1949. Married our Dad, Anthony (Tony) Atamanchuk on November 3, 1951 in Winnipeg. Sadly, Dad passed away suddenly on July 12, 1987.
Remaining to cherish her memory are children, Dennis Atamanchuk, Patty Zest, Jim Atamanchuk and grandchildren: Tanya (Paul) Misseghers, Brittany Atamanchuk, Cody Atamanchuk, Todd (Nicole) Atamanchuk, sister-in-law Ollie Kowaliuk.
Lil was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Domka; a brother in infancy; siblings, Nick, Steve, Bill, George, and Peter; her son-in-law Norman Zest and grandson Quinn Atamanchuk.
The family will never forget Lil's delicious Ukrainian cooking (especially her perogies, homemade soups and cabbage rolls). Lil's happy place was her summer home in Gardenton, MB. She would count the days until the weather was nice enough to escape the city and spend all summer there gardening, entertaining and being part of the community where her roots were.
But above all else, Mom dedicated her life to her family. She was kind, generous and loving mother, wonderful Baba to her grandchildren, a fantastic aunt to her nieces, nephews (to some of them she was called "Lulu"), whom she had a special bond with and helped Mom when she needed support.
Mom welcomed everyone into her home, she was caring, warm, empathetic and non-judgmental, always dispensing wisdom and advice. Mom touched many lives and will forever be missed.
Lil worked at The Kensington Building, retiring in April 2000 to enjoy life. She was an active member at the Bleak House, Norwood Legion and Dufferin Senior Centre, loved to play bingo, whist and cribbage.
A special thank you to all the amazing health care staff at Holy Family Home; our family is very grateful for the compassion, care, kindness and support given to our mother.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB with Father Bohdan Lukie officiating, with viewing prior to the service at 1:30 p.m. and interment to follow.
Pallbearers Dennis and Jim Atamanchuk, Todd and Cody Atamanchuk, Dan Kowaliuk, Richard Kowaliuk, Kevin Chony, and Evan Chony.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W 1T9 or a charity of your choice.
