JOHN (JACK) PARKER
Jack died peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on September 10, 2022. He was born October 27, 1929 in Winnipeg.
Jack is survived by four daughters, Andrea (Aaron) Furutani, Jolene Parker, Cindy (Ron) Parker-Rentz, and Jackie (Scott) Jackson; four grandchildren, Ashley (Aaron), Andrew (Kristen), Troy (Tasia) and Haley (Jakob); three great-grandchildren, Emily, Angus and Roxanne; and his niece Dawn (Grant) May.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Isabella Parker; and most recently by his beloved wife of 72 years, Doreen on August 13, 2022.
Jack started working at the age of 16 at CP Rail as a bike messenger. He retired as a carman/track mobile operator in 1989 after 44 years of service.
He enjoyed league bowling for many years and we have the trophies to prove it. He also curled and took up golf after retirement. At the age of 51 he learned to play the bagpipes. Many memorable family gatherings were graced with the pipes. Jack was a Mason and a Shriner and in 1983 became a member of the Manitoba Pipes and Drums. With the band, he travelled to many U.S. destinations as well as Scotland, Sweden, Germany and Switzerland. His bandmates became friends for life and he continued to attend meetings even after giving up the pipes.
Dad and Mum travelled to Hawaii, Mexico, Cuba, Europe and the British Isles as well as a cruise. They enjoyed MTC, Goldeyes games and walks at The Forks. Dad was completely devoted to our Mum. As her health declined, he made it possible for her to remain at home until shortly before her passing. We take comfort that as they were together in life, they are together again.
It was Jack's wish to have no formal service. The immediate family will gather to celebrate our Dad's long and full life. He will be greatly missed by those he loved and who loved him.
