MARK WAYNE HOEPPNER
It is with profound sadness that Mark's family announces his passing from Blastomycocis. His wife Shannon; son Steve and partner Danielle Saurette; daughter Robyn and husband Matt Lumsden; will miss him tremendously.
Born the seventh child to Peter and Mary Hoeppner, he was baby brother to Jane (Terry) Hiebert, Barry (Gloria) Hoeppner, Vicki (Marvin) Johnston, Donna (Loris) Vendramelli and Dennis (Marleen) Hoeppner, Carol and their families. Deeply affected by his passing are Shannon's parents, Jack and Gloria Lyttle; sisters, Erin Nagy (Andy) and Maureen Hepples (Cam) and their families.
Mark grew up in Transcona. A mechanic by trade, he worked for Department of Water and Waste and retired as Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor. He later became a driving instructor and established Greenlight Driving School and then taught for the Driving Instructor Training Program at RRC.
Mark and Shannon were married in 1985. They were the epitome of best friends, living without regrets. They loved raising Steve and Robyn and adored their partners, Danielle and Matt.
Mark played sports but loved ball hockey and ice hockey. His circle of friends was enormous; friends old and new, through hockey, Bentsen Grove Resort, RRC, work, community and cottage.
Mark was strong in his faith and lived it daily by giving of himself to others. In his honour, we would ask that you do something kind for someone in need. The family is thankful for the support they have received. St. Boniface ICMS staff provided amazing care.
He laughed his legendary laugh, he sang, he helped, he hugged, he prayed, he forgave and he loved. The world will be a quieter place without him.
Please educate yourself and others about Blastomycosis.
A short service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. at East End Community Centre followed by a drop-in Celebration of Life from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Family asks that you attend in casual attire, your jersey, or just come as you are. All are welcome to stop by.

Mark was a wonderful man who was the epitome of fun. I was fortunate to know him through my brother and be part of the same Jets Season Ticket Pool for nearly a decade …. and also be a fellow runner as part of the Butt Sweat and Tears Relay Team in the Manitoba Marathon where I handed him “the baton.” Mark taught two of my kids to drive and successfully pass their driver’s tests. Truly a genuine person, a friend and in many ways he provided an example of how to live. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Thank you Mark…there is no doubt that I am better person for having known you and having shared the pleasure of your company. - Posted by: Andrew Minor (Friend) on: Oct 06, 2022

Count our whole family among the huge numbers who will miss Mark. We grieve for Shannon, Steven, Robyn and their whole family. What a profound loss. Even with all the windows closed in both our homes, we could hear Mark's laugh. It was always welcome. It never got old. We all smiled for the joy of it. Every single time. You could not ask for a better neighbour. - Posted by: Karen and Ken Walpole (Neighbour ) on: Oct 06, 2022

I worked with Mark at the Water & Waste Shop in St. Boniface. Mark would be working in the mechanic's shop and his laughter could be heard past the train shop through the carpenter shop into the machine shop and finally into the weld shop. It was like he had his own built in intercom. Always cheerful and always willing to lend a hand. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to all. May you rest in peace Mark. - Posted by: Gerald Colliou (friend and co-worker) on: Sep 27, 2022

Mark was truly a one of a kind person. His personality, laughter, and his LOUD singing will be terribly missed. Mark treated everyone like he would want to be treated with respect. I, hope Mark is belting out one of his tunes with the Angles Above. May Mark Rest in Heaven God Bless. - Posted by: Bob Hartle (Fellow co-worker and friend.) on: Sep 26, 2022

I am saddened another life has been lost to blastomycosis. Thank you for including the statement asking others to learn and share about the devastating dangers of blasto. As I continued reading your tribute, I realized this man was actually "Uncle Mark" to a long-ago friend. My condolences to all who knew and loved him. Extra love and hugs to VMTKK. - Posted by: Geri (friend of a family member) on: Sep 24, 2022

I knew Mark when he worked in mechanical maintenance at the St. Boniface shop on Plinquet. Mark was competent, patient and occasionally helped out a retired guy who needed a bit of custom fabrication for a car project. I didn’t know that Mark had gone on to become a driving instructor and when I mentioned this to my wife Deborah she declared “He must have been a brave man!” Please cherish your memories of Mark and accept my and Deborah’s sincere condolences.
