OLIVE MARIA LANOWAY
(NOWOSAD)
April 14, 1929 - October 7, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olive Lanoway at Misericordia Place on Friday October 7, 2022, at the age of 93 years.
Olive was predeceased by her husband Walter ("Wally"), her parents Irene and Michael, brothers Boris and Walter.
She is survived and will be sadly missed by her only daughter Lynne Marie Robinson (Scott) of Winnipeg, granddaughter Claire Olivia (Noah), sister Jean Keating of London, Ontario, and brother Myron of Winnipeg. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Kate Keating, Dan and Neale Nowosad and families; Jim, Brian, and Linda Lanoway and families.
Olive was born in April 1929 in Oakburn, MB where her father owned the general store. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1947 where Olive worked at a variety of jobs including Eaton's and Blue Cross. Olive found her calling and entered nursing school at Misericordia General Hospital graduating in the Class of 56B. She had lived in residence at Misericordia and gained many lifelong friendships with her nursing classmates. Olive worked in the nursery and Labor and Delivery at MGH for many years, several of them as head nurse of L&D.
Olive married Walter J. Lanoway in 1964. They spent 27 beautiful years together before his untimely passing. Olive and family spent summers at their cottage on Lake Winnipeg, and many winter vacations in Palm Springs and warmer climates. After many years away from nursing, Olive returned to work at Holy Family Nursing Home until her retirement. She continued her passion for travel with numerous cruises and trips abroad. Olive loved music, played the piano, and was a lifelong patron of the WSO. She loved animals and had numerous cats over the years. Olive will be fondly remembered for her Christmas Eve dinners, preparing perogies and holopchi months in advance. Spending quality time with family was so important to her and she gladly traveled far and wide to be with loved ones. She also had a passion for reading, current events, needlepoint and was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Olive was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Her strength and resilience were truly admirable.

Lynne, I’m so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. May you treasure your memories of her forever. PS, I still make her Rhubarb Cobbler from the Misericordia cookbook. - Posted by: Bev Lesiuk (Former co worker of Lynne’s) on: Oct 21, 2022

My condolences to the family..I:ll always remember Olive as a warm and loving person. I saw her last at my mom's funeral (her Aunt Carrie). She was so happy to hear the eulogy that included some history on her mother Irene and the other Lapka siblings. She was always a delight to reconnect with. - Posted by: Marlene Javra (Cousin) on: Oct 16, 2022
