LEONA WATTMAN
(NICHOL)
1936 - 2022
On September 27, 2022 we said goodbye to our Mom and Grandma; she was 86 years old. Mom passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg, Manitoba with her daughter Karin, grandson Charlie, son-in-law Bernie, son Tony and daughter-in-law Nancy with her in her final days. Attending to her care and comfort were the attentive staff and Reverend Chris Ogunko-Irene of Fred Douglas.
Our Mom was a wife and mother of six children; Grant, Tony, Bill, Paul, John Wattman and Karin Pooley (Wattman). She was a grandmother of 10 children; Rebecca, Samantha, Leanne, Charlie, Christopher, Cherise, Stephanie, Nolan, Emily and Ben. She was a great-grandmother of four; Marlee, Aizlee, Gage and Nolan.
Mom was born in Guelph, Ontario in 1936 and predeceased by our father William Frederick Wattman. As a railway family relocating was common and our mom and family had the benefits of experiencing and living in great cities like Cambridge, Kitchener, London, North York, North Bay, Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario, Port Coquitlam, BC and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Our mom's greatest love and passion was her children and grandchildren. Raising a large family, Mom's happiest moments were the holidays and celebrations where she could cook big traditional dinners and be surrounded by all of her children.
As children we grew up with Mom sharing with us her incredible imagination and gift of storytelling, a gift that she also passed on to her grandchildren. We will remember our Mom as an independent and strong woman.
As a family we celebrated her life at St. Vital Park with a picnic, enjoying each others love and friendship and two of her favourite indulgences Kentucky Fried Chicken and Coke Zero. Following a beautiful fall day at the park, the family gathered to cook our families traditional holiday dinner of turkey, ham and all the fixings. We know our mom would be happy and grateful that we were all together. It was indeed a day to remember and thank her for all that she has done and given us. She will be deeply missed.
We would like to thank all the front line workers and health care staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for all the care and support they gave our mom and our family the last few years. We would also like to thank Wojcik's Funeral Home for the support and help, and Reverend Chris Ogunko-Irene for attending and leading her service.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Society.
