MICHAEL GRANT GORDON
February 25, 1955 - October 11, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Michael "Mickey" Gordon on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the age of 67 years. He was surrounded with loved ones by his side at Health Sciences Centre Hospital.
Mickey will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy, of 47 years. His sons, Will (Jasmina), Rob (Holly); daughter Christina; grandchildren, Gabbi, Brayden, Mackie, Maja, Gavin, Taylor and Zane. His twin Laurie, and other siblings, Glenn and Kathy. Along with many relatives and friends. Predeceased by his brother Ken and nephew Jarrett.
Mickey was born and raised in Winnipeg. He joined the Canadian Naval Reserve where he met his soulmate, Nancy. Mickey worked as an engineer for CP Rail for 37 years. He was a Scouting (Cubs) leader for 26 years in both Winnipeg and Selkirk. Mickey was a very creative and talented artisan, who loved to create with his hands. Mickey and Nancy moved to Libau to raise their three children in the country.
He loved spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, large extended family and pets. All those who knew Mickey, loved and were inspired by him and his big heart.
Mickey will be cremated, with his final resting place at Glenn Eden Cemetery. We will have a celebration of his life in the spring.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Cancer Care Selkirk and Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Mickey- what a shock. It was many years back when I had his son William in Driver Education at the Comp in Selkirk. Will offered for his Dad Mickey to come to the class and talk about Operation Lifesaver and CP Rail. His presentation was a Hit with the students. Just a little while later Rob was proud to bring his Dad to Drivers Ed and again his presentation went over well. There was one more of Mickey and Nancys kids - Christine who was equally as proud of her Dad who walked into the classroom with her Father. It wasn’t just while his kids were in the Dr Ed Program that Mickey shared his expertise with all of us. He got his message across to a whole lot more students as I taught the course for 33 years. Mickey made an effort to attend my class every time I asked him. For that I want to thank you Mickey. After all those years I considered Mickey to be a good friend. The last time he helped me was when I was getting soil from Canadian Tire just this past summer 2022. Who but Mickey was there to help me. “Life’s Work, Well Done”. I think this applies to Mickey. Time for you to rest now, my friend. You gave your heart and soul to CP Rail. I only hope they realized what an Awesome employee they had. R. I. P. Mickey Gordon. - Posted by: Carole Christiansen (Operation Lifesaver Friend) on: Oct 29, 2022

  • My condolences to Mickey's family, Nancy, William, Robert, and Christina. Mickey and I spent a number of years together as Cub/Scout leaders in Selkirk. I like to think that together we help a lot of young people find the joys of scouting, and the great outdoors. He will be missed by many, God bless the family in this time of grief. - Posted by: Peter Hall (Co-leader) on: Oct 27, 2022

  • I met Mikey many years ago when we both were volunteers at the Lockport Children's Winter Festival. Mickey and his kids volunteered in the kitchen department making cotton candy. The only family of volunteers who wanted to do that job and why well the best memory is seeing Mickey in the hazmask suit covered in candy floss. Thining of you all with the loss of Mickey he was a special man. - Posted by: Wanda Yanosik (MacFarlane) (Friend) on: Oct 22, 2022

  • All the families who lived by Canada Packers and went to Archwood School knew each other. It was like one big family. I hung out with Kathy, & of course got to know Mickey and the rest of the family, as we continued to QE, & then to Nelson Mac. My heartfelt condolences to you all. You will have wonderful memories to keep Mickey alive in your hearts. - Posted by: Christine (Hallem) Ward (Friend) on: Oct 22, 2022

  • Worked with Mickey many times. He was a stickler for the rules, and made sure all were kept. - Posted by: Charlie Brow (Conductor) on: Oct 22, 2022
