TOD GILLIES SMITH
August 11, 1949 - St. Boniface, Manitoba
October 20, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
Born August 11, 1949, in Winnipeg, MB, Tod Smith, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the age of 73 years. Predeceased by his parents, Robert Andrew Smith and Mary Edith Smith (nee Tod).
Tod spent the first 50 years of his life in Winnipeg. He grew up in the family home on 17 Tod Drive on the banks of the Red River with his three older brothers: Robert, Fred, and Richard.
Tod attended Hastings Elementary and Dakota Secondary in St. Vital. Later he studied business administration at Red River Community College. Tod began his career in banking and then worked for Canada Revenue Agency for 30 years.
Tod bought the family house from his parents where he and Gina raised their four children: Brian, Michelle, Laura, and Steven.
Life was busy with family celebrations with his many uncles and aunts and over 30 first cousins living nearby. Tod especially loved to spend time with the family at West Hawk Lake where his parents had a cottage and so did Gina's mother. Besides spending time swimming and driving the red speed boat Tod spent endless hours cutting the winter supply of firewood for their home.
Tod is survived by his four children, Brian Smith (Mia), Michelle Hood (Jeff), Laura Cordeiro (Chris) and Steven; and seven grandchildren, Camilla, Burke and Everett Hood and Ava, James, Jack and Troy Cordeiro, and Christine Wright, his loving partner for the last 23 years.
Chris took Tod on many adventures, from music festivals where they volunteered, road trips to the Yukon and Alaska, cruises, a flight to Thailand to visit Brian and they also travelled to major family gatherings for birthdays and anniversaries.
Because of his failing health Tod ended up in an extended care home in Calgary but Chris remained by his side until the end visiting as often as she could and taking him out on short trips. For this loving support the family is very grateful.
There will be a celebration of Tod's life in July 2023 in Winnipeg. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
In living memory of Tod Smith, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

I was so sorry to learn of Tod's passing. The news brought back a flood of memories of our school friendship, exploring the trails in the woods behind Tod Drive and generally muckin' about as school kids so. I remember clearly the Tod Drive bungalow and the original farm house next door. To Brian, Michelle, Laura and Steven; your dad was a good person then, and no doubt grew into a better person as time passed. So to you, Christine and all of Tod's family, I offer my deepest sympathy for your loss. - Posted by: Dunc Malcolm (Victoria Crescent) (School friend) on: Oct 30, 2022
