HELEN GOLDSTRAND
November 20, 1928 – November 5, 2022

Helen passed away, thankful for 94 years of life that was filled with a loving husband, family and friends, community participation on many levels, 48 years of rewarding employment, and true enjoyment as a sports fan and team player. Helen was born to George and Margaret Souter on the family farm near Roblin MB, the second oldest of 12 children. Helen's adult life was lived in Winnipeg, The Pas and Clearwater Lake (her favourite spot on earth). In 1953 she married Roland "Goldie" Goldstrand and had two daughters, Kelly and Lori. She was a great Wife and Mother.
She was a strong, determined and independent woman. If you knew Helen, you know that negativity was not an option, and at some point you will have been told to "Think Positive".
It is on that note that we will continue to embrace life in the spirit that she taught us. She will be missed by her daughters, Lori and Kelly and son-in-law Brian, her one remaining brother Lawrence Souter, nieces and nephews and their families, and many close friends, but she will always be present in our hearts. "When we lose someone we love we must learn not to live without them; but live with the love they left behind."
If you wish to honour Helen's life with a donation, please consider the True North Youth Foundation, www.truenorthyouthfoundation.com. This organization embodies her favourite passions – youth development and education together with fun and the Winnipeg Jets.
True to Helen's character, she instructed us that there should be no formal service. To quote her, "When you live as long as I have, I don't want a somber farewell, I just want my friends to think about me when they do something that reminds them of the fun times we shared".

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved Mrs. G. I will remember the fond memories of my sleepovers at her place with her and her dog Tonka as well as her candied apples for us special kids on Halloween. I will always be your “kiddlepoop!” 😘 - Posted by: Chad Butler (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2022

  • Lori and Kelly. I was sad to hear of Mrs. Goldstrand’s passing. She was a wonderful lady. Her final wishes are so true to her character. She was so supportive but she was also very funny. A great partner in crime. She once caught me driving my dad’s truck (without a driver’s license) and never told on me. To reward her I took her for a ride on my ATC in the snow in The Pas. And we laughed and laughed. My condolences for your loss. - Posted by: Kari Libbrecht (Student ) on: Nov 14, 2022

  • Much sorry to read of Helen's passing. She was a blessing, especially to the Big Fish Track Club. Goldie was so much more because of her influence. Get together's at their house for doughnuts and Doctor Pepper were a tradition not to be forgotten. Condolences to Kelly and Lori. - Posted by: Ron and Judy Libbrecht (Friends) on: Nov 14, 2022

  • So sorry for your loss Kelly. Mom was such a special lady. Her stories and quick wit always filled a room with laughter and fun. You where so good to her and may you draw on all those memories and good times to get you through this difficult time and to bring smiles in the future when you relive those adventures. She will always be with you. Take care. - Posted by: Linda Hird (Friend) on: Nov 09, 2022

  • Deeply saddened to learn that Helen passed away! For more than a decade Helen was a volunteer canvasser at Harewood House during the annual Cancer Society's community canvasser. I so enjoyed getting together for coffee to catch up! She loved you all dearly. She loved her summer home at Clearwater Bay and shared wonderful stories about her time in The Pas. Thank you for sharing this wonderful tribute! Helen was always a great cheerleader! A dear soul, now sadly missed! I will continue of think of Helen with love and fond remembrance! • Your mom was an awesome lady. She was our Brownie or Girl Guide leader. She was so upbeat! When we got in trouble at Girl Guide camp she said, “ Remember Operation Toothpaste!” and laughed. Other parties were not so impressed! She always had you girls dressed so cute! I also remember your dad. Always smoking a cigar. People like your parents added positive memories about growing up in The Pas. My deepest sympathies to you both. - Posted by: Brenda Hedberg-McEachern (Acquaintance) on: Nov 09, 2022
