ANGELA BERNICE WINIARZ
(nee MORAWSKI)

May 26, 1922 - November 4, 2022

Peacefully, on the morning of November 4, 2022, our Dear Mom passed to meet our Lord, and be with our Dad, after 100 years of an amazing life.
Angela was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Elmer, her 10 brothers and sisters, and her granddaughter Marlo. Angela had three daughters, Margie (Noel), Patti (Elliott), Jennifer (Michael), one son Gerry (Jo-Anne), along with her five grandchildren, Ryan (Ali), Bianca (Jeff), Sarah (Jim), Mark (Ali) and Hannah, and her four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jackson, Kinsley and Mason who will miss her feistiness, infectious laugh, smile and unwavering devotion to family. Angela was Aunty to many nieces, nephews and showed love and charitable support to many in her life and will be missed by all that knew her.
Angela, a first generation Canadian, was born and raised in a large, loving and, exuberant Polish family and community in East Kildonan in Winnipeg, which was home for her whole life. She worked as an elevator operator at Eaton's in downtown Winnipeg. When the Second World War was in full swing she moved to Toronto with her girlfriends and became a "Bomb Girl", and worked in a armament factory and in an aircraft parts factory to support the war effort. Angela returned to Winnipeg and met the love of her life, Elmer, married and then devoted her life to raising her four children. Angela was raised in a strong-faith Catholic community, and devoted her energy and time to many organizations, including the Catholic Women's League where she tirelessly pinched perogies and worked at charity tea's to support her St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and private school. Our Mom was also part of the Third order of St. Francis of Assisi and helped raised funds for other charities. Mom and Dad were avid life-time members of the Holy Ghost Fraternal Aid Society, and with other families were charter members of the "Guzzlers" Social Group. Angela and Elmer spent many happy years at the family cabin they built at Hillside Beach on Lake Winnipeg, and shared their love of the lake with their children and grandchildren, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Angela was an avid sports fan supporting the Blue Bombers and Jets, and spent years in the Ladies Bowling League at Mosienko's. She loved to travel with many wonderful trips to Hawaii with our Dad during the cold Winnipeg winters. Mom and Dad also spent many years in their van exploring the Country and the US and took many annual trips to Calgary to visit Jennifer and Michael and be a part of their Calgary grandchildren's lives. Angela was deeply involved in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives, providing endless counsel and lived her life by being a role model for "doing good" in the world. Angela sang in many church choirs and was a lover of music, always filling our house with song and dance and her love of music continues to live on in her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Poseidon Personal Care home, especially all the staff on the 3rd floor and Mike Crosby, for the care and love they provided for Mom in her final years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Alphonsus Church this week, there will be no reception following the Mass however there will be a celebration of her life with family and friends in the spring of 2023.
In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Mom's endless devotion to the poor and impoverished, donations in her name can be made to The Missionaries of Charity (Mother Theresa's Charity) Manitoba Inc, or, a charity of your choice that provides support to people in need.

Mom we know you are dancing with the angels and sipping red wine with Dad.
You will be forever in our hearts and
missed by all that knew you.

Margie, Patti, Gerry and Jennifer

  • Dear family. It was always so joyful when Angela and Elmer came to Calgary to get his artificial leg attended to! Angela was such an incredibly positive ray of sunshine and I couldn’t help but fall in love with her. What an energetic senior, her daily fitness activities, attending church, home support and spending family time!! I always told her that I wanted to be her business manager and take her on tour as a motivational speaker!! She would have been a hit. We are blessed by just knowing her!
