COYE WOLSTENCROFT (GAMMY SASK)
Born: Jun 14, 1931
Date of Passing: Nov 04, 2022Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Coye Wolstencroft (Gammy Sask), on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 91 years of age.
Coye was born in Gull Lake, SK on June 14, 1931, the only child born to Evelyn and Delphen Schoneck.
During her youth, Coye was very involved in music, singing at many church and wedding events in and around Gull Lake and singing and playing piano in a local dance band.
After graduating high school, Coye entered Teachers College in Moose Jaw and upon completion of her teachers certificate, went to teach in a Kindergarten to Grade 8, one room school south of Gull Lake.
Coye met the love of her life, Barry Wolstencroft when he arrived in Gull Lake to teach at Gull Lake High School. Coye and Barry married in 1953 and had three children, Nancy (Jill), Thomas and Ted. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1959 after stops in Assiniboia and Regina.
Coye returned to teaching in 1963 at Dr. F.W.L. Hamilton School in East St. Paul, Manitoba. After three years of teaching one of the Grade 4 classes, she was appointed principal of the school where she remained until her early retirement in 1983. Coye and Barry moved to Moose Jaw where Barry took a position with a hail insurance company.
Barry passed away suddenly in 1990 and in 1999, Coye moved back to Stonewall, Manitoba to be closer to her family.
Coye was a very confident, strong willed and multi-talented person. She loved cooking and baking and playing the piano daily, well into her 80s.
Coye loved her family fiercely and is survived by her sons Thom (Margaret) and Ted (Lori) and grandchildren Chloe (Scott), Teagan (Kelsey), Lynlee (Jordan) and Jonathan.
Coye had a razor sharp wit and was never afraid to speak her mind or state her opinion. She is remembered lovingly by her grandchildren as "Loved by many... feared by more," and "She was the strongest, badass woman I've ever known!"
There will be a private ceremony (tbd) for the family. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of Middlechurch Personal Care Home for the care and respect given to Coye in the last few years, particularly when family was unable to visit due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)
I met Coye through my good friend, Jill, who was her daughter. I don’t know if I have ever met a funnier duo. But, then I met Coye’s mom. and never have I met a funnier trio. Coye was a force to be reckoned with; a very strong woman who also happened to be a fabulous cook. My most sincere condolences to Thom and Ted and the rest of the family. Coye, continue to rest in Peace and know that you are loved and missed. Love ‘ya, Mean it! - Posted by: Shirley Dudeck (Friend) on: Nov 20, 2022
I was a student of her's in the late 60's. When we would line up to enter the school in the morning, (a bunch of rambunctious boys from East St. Paul), she would stand in front with her black skirt, black jacket with a crisp white shirt and a black bow tie....... She would stand with a strap and ask if any of us boys are thinking of doing anything today? She was ahead of her time but we need more like her. My condolences. P.S. Thank God I never saw the inside of her office lol - Posted by: Ricky Negrich (Student at Dr. Hamilton) on: Nov 20, 2022
Coye had a personality that will not be forgotten. I spent many joyful hours in the company of Coye, Barry, Jill, Thom and Ted during many summers in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. These memories remain dear to me after all these years. She will be missed by many. Hugs to all the family from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 - Posted by: Donna and Herb DeMars (Donna is a cousin to Coye) on: Nov 19, 2022
