SHARPE - Elsie "Iris" Sharpe (1930 – 2022) - Peacefully in the early morning on December 5th, 2022, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, MB. Iris was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on December 21, 1930; a daughter to Dora (nee Bilokreli) and John Koroll. She grew up in the village of Theodore and when she wasn't in school, she spent her time on her Uncle Bill's farm, helping with chores and minding the animals. Iris was united in marriage to Henry Sharpe in 1951 and following their marriage, they lived in Yorkton, SK and Minnedosa, MB before settling in Brandon in 1960. She and Henry bought her "dream" home in 1967 and she resided there until her declining health moved her to the Assiniboine Centre. Iris was employed at the Flying Dutchman Bakery, Tip Top Tailors, and Fred's Dry Cleaners from where she retired in 1995. Iris enjoyed sewing, baking, knitting, crocheting, quilting, crafts, tending to her vegetable garden and trips to the casinos in Winnipeg, Yorkton and Belcourt. Her grandkids brought her great joy, and she was available to help out with them whenever she was called upon without hesitation. Her favourite time of the year was Christmas (December and January) where she could showcase her Ukrainian heritage through the food she served to her family and guests. The house was always decked out with foil garlands and the tree in tinsel until after Ukrainian New Year's. Iris was predeceased by her parents John and Dora, her brothers Richard and William and sister Eleanor, her husband Henry in 1990 and great-granddaughter Isla in 2021. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Brian (Linda), Ricky (Christine) and Brent. Her daughter Gwen (Tim), her grandchildren Adam (Jenn), Matthew, Stephanie (Scott), Tylar (Emily), Turnar, Rachel (Walker) and great-grandchildren Emily, Lily, Sadie, Zoey, Bentley, Phoenix, Greyson and Ezra and her sister Katie Spezza and brother in-law Barry Sharpe. Iris suffered from dementia which affected her quality of life, and she became unable to do the things that she enjoyed. She liked asking for rides in the country with her son Brent, who was her caregiver for the last four years. Iris' family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and aides who cared for her in the days before her passing. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 10:30am from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre, Yorkton. The interment will follow in the family plot at the Theodore Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba much appreciated.
