CATHERINE MAYDANIUK

October 9, 1938 - December 14, 2022

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Cathy announce her passing on December 14, 2022 at Concordia Place Personal Care Home. After a long and courageous fight with Alzerimer's and breast cancer, Cathy passed away peacefully holding hands with her family who loved her deeply. She was a loving wife, mother, baba, great-baba and cherished friend. She will be sorely missed.
Cathy is predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Stephen Maydaniuk and her siblings, Katherine, Anna, Mike, Walter and John.
Cathy is survived by her children, Diane (Dauphin), Allan and his wife Bonnie (Winnipeg) and Tim and his wife Shauna (Madison, Wisconsin); grandchildren, Maegan and her husband Andrew (Melbourne, Australia), Evan and his husband Dustin (Winnipeg), Quinton and his wife Katelyn (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), Amber (Madison, Wisconsin) and Lance (Dauphin); great-grandchildren, Cailey and Peyton (both of Melbourn, Australia) and cherished friend Betty Flemming (Virginia, USA).
Cathy was born October 9, 1938 in Caliento, MB, shortly after they would relocate to Piney, MB to the family farm where she would create many fond childhood memories. Later she would move to the big city where she met the love of her life Steve, who she would marry on May 20, 1960. Together they would build their family home in Winnipeg where they lovingly raised their three children. As grandchildren and great-grandchildren came into the picture, the love for her family continued to grow.
While reminiscing with Cathy, memories that always brought a smile to her face included the many weekends spent at the farm with some of her dearest friends; travelling to Virginia to visit Betty, a cherished friend who she met on a retirement trip to Europe; and time spent with Steve, simply gardening and visiting loved ones. Cathy and Steve were very active members of All Saint's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Volunteering for church activities and events brought them great joy. As memories faded later in life, she never forgot her deep love of family; seeing pictures of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and hearing of their success always brought her happiness till the very end. She loved her family deeply and we will forever remember her quiet sense of humour, strong faith and beautiful smile.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Concordia Place for their care and kindness to our family. We would also like to thank all our friends and extended family for all the support they have given us in these last few weeks.
Prayers will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. with the Funeral Service to follow on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. All observances will be held at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 1500 Day Street.
