KERRY LEE SUMKA
04/16/1968 - 01/03/2023
Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, we deeply regret to announce the death of Kerry Sumka. On January 3, 2023 Kerry was surrounded by love from her life partner at Riverview Health Center when she passed.
Kerry was born April 16, 1968 in Winnipeg, MB and grew up in East Selkirk, MB. She is survived by her only child Ashley Goshulak (Kevin); parents, Elizabeth Morowski and James Sumka (Cora); siblings, Darrell Sumka, Michelle Sumka (Al) and Tiffany Hawthorne (Tyler); niece Brooke Sumka; long-time friend Randy Goshulak; long-time partner Mike Peckham; Mike's family, Bill, Anne and Elisha Peckham, Linda and Ken Vandenakker.
Most of her career was spent working for Jostens/Lifetouch, however the last two years she made a career change to follow a passion for helping others. She went back to school to get her Health Care Aide training and was able to work for River Ridge, Middlechurch Personal Care Home and Selkirk Hospital.
Kerry enjoyed being outdoors, living an active life, and spending plenty of time with family and friends. Some of Kerry's most fond memories were going to the park with family to listen to live bands and driving all over Winnipeg to see the beautiful Christmas lights while listening to festive music. Kerry will be remembered for being caring and selfless. She will be deeply missed by all, loved forever, and thought about always.
Family would like to thank Riverview for all their care in her last moments. The memorial service will be held April 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kerry's memory may be made to CancerCare MB.

Kerry was my first friend when I started working at Jostens in 1998, we started the same week of training. She had a kind heart and always had a smile on her face. We kept in touch after I left Jostens in 2006, on Facebook. But she never ever told me she was sick. My condolences to Ashley and all Kerry’s family and friends. RIP Kerry. Heaven has gained another beautiful angel. - Posted by: Cheryl Kotelniski (Friend) on: Jan 15, 2023

My condolences to the Families and friends. I worked with Kerry for many years through the Jostens and Lifetouch days. I can say without hesitation Kerry was a kind, loving, gentle Soul, who was always happy to see you. I am honoured that Kerry reached out to me in the beginning of this horrible disease, and we could talk. I wish you had more time my friend. The world has lost a Beautiful Soul, but gain a Wonderful Star. Rest In Peace Kare Bear đź’” - Posted by: Trudy Glesby (Friend) on: Jan 08, 2023

We have blessed memories of Kerry being with us many times as a part of Mike's family. She was like a daughter-in-law to us and an older sister to Elisha, a very precious relationship in our lives. We enjoyed praying with her over the phone or in person as her faith in Jesus deepened for Him to be her Personal Savior. Psalm 23, The Lord is My Shepherd, was a favorite psalm which gave her much comfort in knowing that Jesus was with her full time, caring for her during her darkest moments. Our daughter, Linda, also often prayed with Kerry and shared scripture and we could see Kerry grow spiritually. She is now at peace with Jesus for eternity. We were so proud of her accomplishment in completing her Health Care program and she was a hard worker with whatever she took on. Our condolences to all her family. We can celebrate her life on April 16th, 2023, good Lord willing. We all need to turn to Jesus for our free cup of Salvation in all our lives to ensure eternity with Jesus. It is free. - Posted by: Bill, Ann, and Elisha Peckham (Mike's parents and younger brother) on: Jan 08, 2023
