DAVID ARTHUR MAUGHAN
October 28, 1949 - January 5, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved brother and father, David Arthur Maughan.
He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, daughter Sheila (who passed away March 25, 2022) and father and mother Arthur and Elsie Maughan. David is survived by his son Kyle (Kim), dog Babee, sister Janet (Norm), brother Ken (Lisa), sister Cathy (Les), nieces, nephews and many cousins.
David began his career as a school teacher in Elie, Manitoba and then changed careers to a Pathology Assistant at Health Sciences Centre. Once retired, became a Child Care Worker at Little Friends Daycare.
David adored his many years at our Victoria Beach family cottage with his dog and his son by his side. David enjoyed golfing, and hobbies of gardening and woodworking. He was an all-around Mr. Fixit. He took pride in fixing and building anything around the house or at the cottage. He would be found at home watching hockey games when he wasn't at his weekly Salisbury House or playing Bingo at the Victoria Beach Community Centre. Even following his stroke in 2020, David enjoyed playing weekly bingo at the Deer Lodge Centre.

David we love you, miss you and you will be forever in our hearts.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all the caring, compassionate staff at Deer Lodge Centre who made our family and David feel so comfortable during his time there.
Cremation and burial has taken place. A Celebration of Life for both David and Sheila will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I first met David when we both had summer jobs at a local Wpg. restaurant in about 1966. The restaurant was called Cal's Place, and it was with the Pizza Place chain. David was a dishwasher and I spent a year or two there as a waitress ( these days "server".) (The wages for both of us would have been 0.95 cents per hour.) we were both in the final years of high school. It just so happened that our parents had cottages at Victoria Beach , both on 5th Ave. Ours was at 336 , and theirs was at 5th and King Edward. So occasionally I'd give David a lift to the lake on a Friday afternoon, after work, in my family's 1965 or earlier Studebaker, I think it was. David would occasionally tell me to please slow down. I must have had a heavy foot on the pedal. Coincidentally we would meet a few years later when I was a nursing student at the then Winnipeg General Hospital and David was a technician in the Pathology department. (He had a few choice stories about that job.) Fast forward a few more years, and we'd still have visits on King Edward Beach. We both had spouses and children by this point. This is a lovely photo of David, exactly as I remember him. I knew his parents as well from V.B.. David was always a lovely person, and I enjoyed catching up with him whenever we would meet, or when we both worked at the big hospital. I am sorry that both he and Margaret have passed away now, and I send loving thoughts and condolences to his son Kyle and to other family members. - Posted by: Catherine Lee (friend from when we were both 17 at V.B. and lived on the same Avenue) on: Jan 14, 2023
