JEANETTE MARGARET BRENTON
October 10, 1930 – January 6, 2023

Jeanette "Jay" Brenton (nee Nazar) passed away at the age of 92 years on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Selkirk Regional Hospital.
Jeanette was born in Brandon, Manitoba to Anne and Michael Nazar on October 10, 1930. Jeanette spent most of her younger years in Brandon, where she graduated from high school and began her working career. She was an avid and recognized softball player, who was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Federation Hall of Fame. While living in Brandon, Jeanette met her future husband Robert "Bob" Brenton.
Jeanette and Bob married on April 27, 1957. The pair welcomed three beautiful, much loved, and occasionally mischievous sons: Chuck, Pat and Bill. Jeanette and Bob moved to Winnipeg in 1960, where they resided until her passing. Jeanette was a loyal and active member in the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Always a faithful volunteer, Jeanette participated in the church choir, worked as a treasurer, and was a skilled perogy maker.
Jeanette was a loving and loyal mother and grandmother. Her four grandchildren, Garrett, Meaghan, Matthew, and Lucas were the light of her life. Jeanette was an enthusiastic fan of her grandchildren's hockey and dance; they could always spot her smiling face in the crowd. She and Bob enjoyed trips south to Arizona with their son Bill to escape the harsh Winnipeg winters and to visit with family and friends. Jeanette's warm demeanour garnered her many friends in the church and her community.
Jeanette is survived by her husband Bob, sons, Chuck (Pauline) and Pat (Stephanie), four grandchildren, sister Nancy, six nephews and one beloved niece. She was predeceased by her devoted son Bill who cared for her until his untimely passing in 2021. Jeanette was also predeceased by her two siblings, Irene Majcher and John Nazar.
An intimate graveside celebration of Jeanette's life will take place in Brandon in April 2023.
Donations in memory of Jay may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My sincere condolences to Jay's family and friends. I remember her as a very kind, welcoming person, and recall making delicious perogies with her in the Clifton kitchen, and out at a Brandon restaurant/drive-in 40+ years ago. - Posted by: Kristin Johnson (Family friend) on: Jan 29, 2023

  • Sincere condolences to your family. My favourite memory of your mom and your family is when our families would get together on a Saturday night, the parents would play cards and we would run around the neighbourhood on Clifton or our home on Borebank. As the night went on the smell of fresh pirogies and french fries would waft through the air and we would end the night watching Chiller Thiller and eating the feast! - Posted by: Heather Jones (Daughter of Ross and Corinne, good friends of Bob and Jay) on: Jan 21, 2023
