SHEILA MARY DIANE DAWSON

Surrounded by her loving family at the Grace Hospital, on Thursday, January 12, 2023, Sheila Mary Diane (Bannatyne) Dawson passed away from respiratory complications just a short six weeks after the passing of her husband Cliff.
Sheila was born November 17, 1935 in Winnipeg. She grew up and did all her schooling in Charleswood. After attending MITT, she worked at British America Assurance where she met Cliff in 1957 and after a two year romance they were married for 63 years! They had a very admirable relationship, one many of us strive for. They spent many years living in Springstein but considered Charleswood their home.
Sheila continued to be a part of the Charleswood community throughout her life. She was a member of the Charleswood Curling Club for many years and was a long-time member of the Charleswood Historical Society and the Charleswood 55+ Senior Centre.
Sheila was the family encyclopedia; she remembered absolutely everything about every one of her family members. It was Sheila's team you wanted to be on playing trivial pursuit. Why she was never on her favourite show Jeopardy, we will never know!
Sheila was like a second mom to many of her nieces and nephews. She was always the "go to" for advice on everything. Their home was the family hub and the gathering spot for many family festivities. She had nieces and nephews for over nights, weekends and week-long stays over summer holidays. She was the cool, fun aunt and sister that said it like it was. She taught us how to play cards, pickle, can, cook, garden and boy did she talk about sports a lot!
Sheila is predeceased by her parents, Morice and Lena, her siblings, Jim (Mary), Bob (Geraldine), Herb, Donna (Brian), Bruce and Rick, two sisters in infancy and niece Jamie.
Sheila is survived by her siblings, Grant (Joyce), Ross (Carol) and Nancy, sisters-in-law, Diane and Mary Lyn, many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and a great-great-nephew.
There will be no funeral service. A family celebration of Sheila and Cliff's lives will be held at a later date.
If you wish, a donation may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Sheila was such a large and positive influence on our lives growing up. Due to her and Cliff, whenever you went to their home they displayed so much generosity to everyone. There was always a feeling of “What exciting thing is going to happen next ?!” Sheila and Cliff were genuinely amazing people. It was such an honour and a pleasure to have known them and to have experienced their love for their large group of family and friends. - Posted by: Grant Bannatyne (Nephew) on: Mar 13, 2023
