DAVID (DAVE) ALLAN MARNOCK

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of David (Dave) Allan Marnock - ‘Weasel’. With his family by his side, Dave passed away at the Minnedosa and District Hospital on the morning of December 26, 2022.
Dave was born on April 11, 1955, in Carberry, Manitoba to proud parents, David and Beryl Marnoch, and big sister, Bette. Dave was raised in Arizona (Municipality of North Norfolk) and Carberry, Manitoba. In 1969, at the age of fourteen, Dave and his family moved to Minnedosa. It was here that Dave would complete his schooling and graduate from Minnedosa Collegiate. During this time, “Weasel” would embark on many wild misadventures with his Minnedosa buddies. Dave was never shy to try new things. He enjoyed boating, playing baseball, hockey, and tennis. But his favourite passion was golf. Whether he was good at these activities or not, Dave always had a way of making himself look cool and reminding everyone that he was a ‘Good Looking, Scotsman’. It was these adventures that would be told throughout the years and leave his listeners astonished at these unbelievable stories.
Dave would eventually settle into a career with the Manitoba Department of Highways following in the footsteps of his father. In 1981, he married Eleanor Melcosky and they began their family in 1983 when their only son Ryan, was born! Dave would work with the ‘Good Roads’ for 33 years where he was respected, hardworking, and a dedicated employee. It was here that he created many friendships with the people that he met and built many of the Manitoba highways that we travel on today. He worked until his retirement in 2009. Like his dad, Dave enjoyed woodworking, building, and tinkering in his workshop. In the last few years, Dave would act as a supervisor or ‘gopher” for Ryan’s work projects by assisting wherever necessary and spending time watching his grandchildren participate in their summer and winter activities.
Dave leaves behind his wife, Eleanor of 42 years and their son Ryan (Camille), and his grandchildren Alexis, Brody, Brinley, Nathan, and Kaden. He also will be missed by his sister Bette (Reid) Birss, niece Julia Ngezahayo (Simeon, Nora, and Simeon Jr.), and Reid Birss Jr. Also mourning his passing are his sisters-in law Shirley Selewich, Elsie (Bruce) Ray, Lori Melcosky and brother-in-law Allan Melcosky. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished the antics of their uncle. He also leaves behind his stepbrothers Randy (Grace) MacDonald, Randall Birss, Sheldon (Michele, Drew (Katrina), and Rebecca)) Birss and Bonnie Yakubchak.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Dave and Beryl Marnoch-MacDonald, mother-in-law Matilda, brother-in-law Earl and sister-in-law Pat, and her husband Terry.
Dave’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends at the lake in the summer where he entertained his family and friends at the OC serving up his famous morning breakfast or acting as captain on his pontoon or spending time on the golf course with family and friends. He also spent his winters for ten years at Pine To Palm in Weslaco, Texas where he took up PickleBall and played hockey with his team ‘Trailer Trash’ and later transitioned to Manager of the Team. Dave was the life of the party whether at work or at play. Dave was well-versed in his knowledge of old movies and classic rock music. He always participated wholeheartedly in summer-themed family events and dressed up, participating in games and trivia challenges. Each time telling us, “Nobody told me about this event”!
Dave’s final resting place will be at the Minnedosa Cemetery. A private interment will occur in the spring followed by a Celebration of Life in memory of Dave at the Minnedosa Golf Club in the Spring 2023. Donations in Dave’s memory can be made to the Minnedosa Palliative Care Service and Minnedosa Golf Club.

Dave, we love you and we will miss you, and we will always remember these three things:
“You were young, You were Scottish and God Damnnnn, You were good looking”
