OVILA ERNEST (ERNIE) DROUIN
Ovila Ernest (Ernie) Drouin in his 100th year, March 23, 1923 to January 25, 2023. Beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather died peacefully, surrounded by his family.
From altar boy at St. Boniface Cathedral through the Second World War in England with the RCAF to his years as executive member of the 500 "City of Winnipeg" Wing RCAFA, he led a life of service to all who needed him.
His professional career was spent at CBC Radio where he enjoyed the friendship of the people he worked with immensely. Dad was a devoted and active member of Saints Martyrs Canadiens parish.
Predeceased by his beautiful wife of 61 years, Thérèse, his sisters, Jeanne Vermander and Lucille Fancy, he leaves us bereft in grief. His siblings, Jim (Joan) Drouin and Alice Soulodre, his children, Marc (Christiane), Madeleine (John), Suzanne (Ken), Julie (Merv) and Paul (Lori), and sisters-in-law, Dora Pambrun and Danielle Pamburn will always remember his love, generosity, vast stores of knowledge, ready smile and beautiful twinkling blue eyes. He remained curious about the world around him to the end. Dad really was the best of men.
Many thanks to Concordia staff and all the supportive neighbours and home care workers who helped him remain in his home.
Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Martyrs Canadiens Parish, 289 Dussault Ave.

I live in Montreal and was visiting my sister Evelyn Tomy. My plane came in around 6 pm. Suzanne kindly invited me to Ken's 70th birthday party which was being held that evening (complete with a lawn sign "Guess who is 70 today" (compliments of Ken's friends). Mr. Drouin was at the party. He came to speak to me (we were separated by 3 to 4 guests). I felt honoured by his graciousness. So much warmth! What an articulate individual! That was a wonderful 70th birthday party party because of the lawn sign and Mr. Drouin. - Posted by: Angie Caners (Sister of Evelyn Tomy (neighbour of Suzanne and Ken)) on: Feb 21, 2023

Over the last several years, I've had the honour and privilege of working with Ernie through our mutual affiliation with the RCAF Association. A kind, generous and thoughtful man, Ernie was well-liked and well-respected by all. I will certainly miss his upbeat and charismatic approach to our Association's activities, his enthusiasm in taking on his tasks and most of all, his genuine friendship. I remain grateful for his service and dedication to our country and to the RCAF Association. On behalf of the members of 500 (City of Winnipeg) Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association, we offer our sincere condolences to Ernie's family and to those closest to him. My condolenses to the Drouin family for the loss of a great person. I as a member of the RCAFA 500 Wing (35 years) met Ernie several times or a call by phone. And also at the RBC convention centre on November 11th carrying the colors on parade for our veterans. Ernie will be missed but not forgotten. My thoughts and prayers to all..................Larry G. - Posted by: Larry Golembioski (friend) on: Feb 04, 2023
