MELANIE LORIN LEGGE

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our dear daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece and friend, Melanie, on January 30, 2023.
Melanie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her parents, Lisa and Ken, her brother Brendin, Nana Mooney, Grandma Legge, her aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. She will be reunited with her Papa Mooney and Grandpa Legge.
Melanie grew up in St. James, where she attended Lincoln Middle School and Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. Melanie was the ultimate water baby. Her love of water started at an early age. She would spend countless hours diving for loonies in her grandparent's pool. Once enrolled in swim lessons, she advanced through the levels so quickly that we had to find another option. That is when she became a competitive swimmer with the St. James Seals and later the Manta swim club. After graduating, Melanie passed on her love for swimming by becoming a lifeguard and teaching kids how to swim. Mel was famous for hiding little notes around the house, and they would bring a smile to your face when you found one. Melanie was a kind, caring person with a heart of gold. She loved the summer, being by the water, working out and spending time with her dogs.
Melanie struggled with addiction and mental health issues. She never wanted to be defined only by her addiction and mistakes. She was a good-humoured, intelligent girl who fell into its grip. She would light up the room with her smile and stunning blue eyes, even while struggling with her demons. You were so hard on yourself, constantly worrying, comparing yourself to others, and thinking you were not good enough. We wish you could have recognized the beauty and strength that everyone else saw.
You will forever be our princess. Rest in peace, beautiful girl. We hope you finally find the peace you so desperately searched for.
A private celebration of Melanie's life will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (15 entries)

  • I’ve had the pleasure of working with Melanie for a number of years as an instructor/Guard. My favourite memory with her was when we were working the morning shifts together. I will always remember how we would watch the sun rise every morning. It’s crazy how a moment so simple and small could hold so much value. I believe this is a testament to just how special of a person she really was. I offer my deepest condolences to her Friends and Family. - Posted by: Erick Donald (Friend and Co-Worker) on: Feb 26, 2023

  • My deepest condolences to Lisa, Ken and Brendin. Mel and I were best friends throughout high school and went to grad together. She (and her family) were the only other people my late dog would let take care of her when I went away! Mel was always such a fun person to be around. She cared deeply for those she loved, and always had a beautiful smile on her face. This is a devastating loss to understand, and I hope the family can find comfort knowing Mel is no longer facing her demons. - Posted by: Julie Kulik (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2023

  • Melanie was my first friend when I was shit scared to move up into Sylvie's group in Manta. I’ll always remember how she was the first person to talk to me and made me feel welcome. We later then Reconnected when we both became lifeguards for the city. We both spent our breaks tanning outside at KP pool sharing tanning oil lol. Mel was always so softly spoken, quiet, shy but super friendly. My condolences to her family💗 - Posted by: Ashley Bodnarchuk (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2023
