Sadly our brother Grant passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Wawanesa Personal Care Home in Wawanesa, Manitoba. Grant was born at the St. Boniface Hospital in St. Boniface, Manitoba on September 18, 1957. The first six years of Grant's life were spent in Windsor Park, St. Boniface and Giroux, Manitoba. Summers were spent on the farm in Giroux and winters in the city. He and his siblings "helped take meals to the field", often followed by a swim in the Seine River, which ran through the farm. The family moved to a farm northwest of Brandon in the summer of 1963. The Little Saskatchewan River flowed through this farm and many afternoons and evenings were spent on the shore, having wiener roasts and bonfires with aunts, uncles and cousins. School years were at Poplar Hill in Daly Municipality, Fleming, Earl Oxford and Neelin.
Brandon was Grant's lifelong home. He only recently moved into a care home due to a change in his mobility. Grant loved watching sports on television and he was a diehard fan of the Montreal Canadiens in the winter, Blue Jays in the summer and Blue Bombers in between. He knew all the latest news and stats. He had a large collection of movies on DVD; old westerns and 007 being a couple of his favourites. Visitors would often find him watching old movies on TCM when there were no games on. Walking for many years was a big part of Grant's life. He became committed to a healthier lifestyle and walking was a big part of it. Grant's life had challenges, but he maintained a good sense of himself and his worth throughout. The family would like to thank all the special people in his life, in Brandon and Wawanesa. Grant was predeceased by his parents Dan and Elva Cohoe. He is survived by his siblings: Maureen (Harvey), Shawn, Shelagh, Brad, Brent (Diane) and Kathleen.
A Graveside Service will be held at a later date, with burial next to his parents at Saint Paul’s Cemetery in Starbuck, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Grant may be made to Epilepsy Canada, East Tower, 3250 Bloor St W, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2X9.
