EDMOND MARK LE NABAT
April 19, 1950 – February 4, 2023

With family by his side, Mark Le Nabat passed away peacefully at the age of 72.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Karen, his sons Marcus (Caroline), Derek, and Donavon (MeL), his daughter Sonya Jackson (Alan), and his siblings Murray (Janice), Michael (Mary Jane), Marsha (Dave†), Marvin (Karen) and Michelle (Roy). He will also be missed by his grandchildren: Ben (Cami), Sarah, Jappreet, Lauren and Maeven. He was pre-deceased by his son Matt Le Nabat.
Growing up in Saskatchewan, Mark developed a fondness for sports, cars and other simple pleasures such as playing cards (Pinochle and poker), playing baseball, enjoying backyard fires and amassing an encyclopedic knowledge of sports.
He spent his career of 37 years with Canada Post, starting out loading trains as a teenager, rising to become an Operations Manager for the Winnipeg Plant, and spending his last ten years as manager of Portage La Prairie region, before retiring at the ripe old age of 53!
Mark and Karen moved into the Woodhaven Community in 1989. Mark spent many years as President of the Woodhaven Community Club, knew all the neighbours (and their children and their pets' names).
A devotee of classic rock, there was nothing Mark liked more than playing air guitar on the dance floor, especially when his sons were the ones making the music.
Mark and Karen never truly went on vacation; they had their favourite spots to visit each year, sometimes for months at a time: Zihuatanejo, Mexico during the winter, and California and Toronto to spend time with family.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Grace Hospice, for helping to make Mark's final weeks as comfortable as possible.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this year.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • I had the pleasure of working and playing with Mark in both Regina and Winnipeg. We always made sure we had a good time at work. We played racket all every week with Henry Farmer (RIP) pretending the ball was our latest Plant Manager. Alice and I watched his four boys grow up. He cherished his family above all else. So glad when he found Karen. Mark always made us feel at home. A great friend. - Posted by: Rick & Alice Sweet (Co-worker in both Regina and Winnipeg ) on: Jun 21, 2023

  • Woodhaven will sorely miss a good fellow Woodhavenite. He was a good community club volunteer, a helpful neighbour and a good friend. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to Karen and family. His memory will always be with us. - Posted by: Chris Aldridge (friend) on: Feb 19, 2023

  • A truly kind man. I always enjoyed catching up with him at Donavon's open mic nights, and then later at the open mics at Donavon's house. He was so unguarded and genuinely cared to know how you were. - Posted by: Kevin Wong (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2023

  • We are so sad to hear of Mark's passing. We send love hugs and prayers to you Karen, Marcus, Derek, Donavan, Sonya and your families. We first met Mark at "the club" as the baseball convenor and soon after he became the president of Woodhaven Park Community Club. He worked with and met many neighbors in this role. He was always recruiting board members, seasonal workers and volunteers. He recruited a dam good treasurer in his wife, Karen ! He worked tirelessly for his community and his neighborhood. He was well known on the Winnipeg Community Clubs' Board promoting Woodhaven at every opportunity. We celebrated many community events with Mark & Karen at "the club" - meals, dancing, music, carnivals. Most events spilled over to private homes, our home included. Mark wore many different hats. We remember him as a family man, a community activist our neighbor and friend. - Posted by: anne & sandy Boyd (friends & neighbors) on: Feb 12, 2023
