WILLIAM DUNLOP POOLES
P. ENG. (Ret.)
February 11, 1931 - February 7, 2023
On Tuesday, February 7, Dad entered into his enteral home in Heaven. Dad was 91.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara (January 2022).
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Brent (Joanne) and Shannon (Jeff); his grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew), Morgan (Josiah), Taylor (Erin), Spencer (Carl), Kelsey (Thomas) and Kellen; and seven great-grandchildren.
Dad grew up on Arlington Street in Winnipeg. He attended St. Margaret's Church and was active in the young peoples group, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. It was there that Dad met Mum. They started dating in 1949 and married in 1952. They raised their family in Fort Garry and were very involved at St. Paul's Anglican Church. Later, Dad and Mum led the Fort Garry Cell Church in their home.
Dad started his career as a draftsman at Anthes Western Ltd. working up to the position of Sales Manager. Anthes allowed Dad the mornings off to attend University of Manitoba (U of M) to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. Dad graduated in 1976 and was the first student that U of M allowed to work part-time while getting his degree.
In 1981 Dad started his own business which today is known as WD Industrial Group, owned and managed by his son Brent and son-in-law Jeff. Several of his grandchildren are involved in the business as well.
Hobbies that Dad enjoyed were curling, hunting and model railroad building. He built quite the model railroad and children from a local school came and toured it. Dad also served as an elected councillor in his younger years for Fort Garry.
Dad was an avid Bomber fan and season ticket holder for 55 years. He attended his last game in the fall of 2022. He shared his passion for football with his son Brent and grandson Kellen.
Dad and Mum enjoyed over 40 years wintering in Maui, Hawaii and Phoenix. Many wonderful memories were made there.
Dad felt very blessed by the Lord for having a wonderful wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a strong faith in the Lord, the legacy he leaves behind will continue for many generations.
We will truly miss Dad, but he waited 386 days to be reunited with Mum and for him that was far too long. But we can't help but rejoice knowing they are together in Heaven and have the assurance that we will all be together for eternity one day.
A Celebration of Life will be held for both Dad and Mum at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Siloam Mission.

Sorry Shannon and Brent for your loss. I grew up down the street too and it was always a family type thing. Your mom or dad was my mom and dad. Kinda. Our moms and dads will live on forever. RIP Mr. Pooles.... we'll watch over the hood! - Posted by: Larry Dale (Neighbor) on: Feb 14, 2023

Uncle Bill, you will truly be missed and fondly remembered as an absolute gem and one-of-a-kind. I have so many fond memories of visits to Winnipeg with Nana and Bumps, or you and Auntie visiting in Regina and Phoenix. I always looked forward to our time together and knew that dinner would be full of banter and interesting conversation! I know how much you dearly missed Auntie after her passing and am comforted knowing you are reunited with her. I’m picturing you sitting in comfy armchairs with my Bumps and the other uncles, scotches in hand while bantering over politics and other current events, with Nana and Auntie chuckling and chatting away. You lived an amazing life and will be remembered with love ❤️ - Posted by: Aymie Rondeau (Great-Niece) on: Feb 12, 2023
